Florentina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I was 12 years old, right after the war had ended. We were attempting to rebuild our lives and returned to school, which was set up in improvised tents. One day, some kind-hearted individuals from an International Humanitarian Organization visited our school with the intention of teaching us essential life skills, including how to care for ourselves and maintain good health. They conveyed these lessons through a play performance, and I was chosen to portray the role of the doctor. My task was to explain these fundamental concepts to the other children. Naturally, I was given a script to follow, but as I delivered my lines, I realized how much impact my words and presence had on the other kids. I felt a sense of respect and enjoyed how attentively they listened to me, taking my words seriously. They were all ears to what I had to say. After the ‘performance’ concluded, one of the women from the organization commended me on my talent and how well I played my role. It was at that moment I understood that what I had just done was ‘acting,’ and I felt a profound sense of pride. It was then that I realized that acting was what I wanted to pursue for the rest of my life.
Florentina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
In addition to my extensive experience performing in over a hundred plays and theaters, I have garnered numerous accolades, earning the title of Best Actress five times at various Balkan Festivals. Most recently, I received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the prestigious Nice Film Festival for my role as Irma in “I, Father.” Furthermore, I had the privilege of being part of “Bini,” a film by Erblin Nushi that earned a nomination at the Student Academy Awards.
I take immense pride in holding a master’s degree in Film and Theater. My journey into the world of acting began at the tender age of thirteen when I enrolled at the Odhise Paskali School of Art in Peja. What initially started as a youthful and exuberant pursuit soon revealed itself to be a profound, demanding, and enriching journey, cementing my love for the craft. I continued my educational odyssey at the Faculty of Arts in Prishtina, where I completed my Master’s Degree.
This educational and artistic pilgrimage was one of the most transformative experiences of my life. I was fortunate to have exceptional mentors who later became my dearest friends. Immersing myself in the extensive repertoire of plays, books, and shows not only bolstered my self-assurance but also helped me shed the backstage apprehensions that can plague any actor. It was during this journey that I discerned two pivotal aspects. Firstly, on a personal level, it acquainted me with the intricate world of acting, unraveling its demands and opportunities. Secondly, from an artistic standpoint, it led me to perceive life and art through an entirely novel lens.
I take immense pride in my work and strive to infuse every endeavor with the rich knowledge and culture of my Albanian heritage. I am a dedicated Albanian actress, now residing in Los Angeles, California, where I continue to pursue my passion.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Being an award-winning actress from Kosovo and living in Los Angeles, one of the most gratifying aspects of my journey as an artist is the profound connection I establish with my audience. Through my work, I have the opportunity to convey my thoughts, emotions, and my own unique perspective. It’s a chance to leave a meaningful imprint and stir emotions in a way that’s entirely my own. My art is my way of connecting with others on a deep and personal level, making this journey as an artist deeply fulfilling and truly special.
