Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr. Florence Fasan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Dr. Florence, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I am the founder of the Miss Elegance Georgia Pageant & The Intentional Woman Award. My inspiration for founding these initiatives stemmed from my profound belief in the power of recognizing, celebrating, and nurturing the potential of women and young ladies. Through the Intentional Woman Award and the Miss Elegance Georgia pageant, I aim to create a ripple effect of empowerment, inspiring women and girls to be intentional in their pursuits and make a lasting impact on the world around them.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
“Today is your last day.”
My heart skipped a beat, and time seemed to stand still. The news hit me like a thunderbolt. How could this be? I had poured my passion and dedication into this job, and yet, here I was, facing an unexpected departure. As the reality settled in, a mix of emotions surged within me – shock, disappointment, and a hint of fear for the uncertain road ahead.
However, buried beneath the weight of adversity was a spark of resilience that refused to be extinguished. In that moment of uncertainty, I made a choice – to transform this setback into a launching pad for something greater. Rather than succumbing to despair, I decided to channel my energy into the unexplored realms of entrepreneurship.
Armed with determination and a dash of audacity, I ventured into the world of business, fueled by the belief that every challenge holds an opportunity. The initial days were tough – navigating the unknown, facing rejection, and embracing the ambiguity of entrepreneurship. Yet, with each setback, I gleaned invaluable lessons that fueled my growth.
I started with a modest venture as a personal stylist, learning the ropes of resilience and adaptability. Then I founded Flofix Image Consulting where i started working with corporate clients. I later added my shoe line called Mode Shoes and purses, Classy Cocktails; a mobile cocktail company, and Gift Ar Us; a gift specialty company. I also discovered a purpose to share and inspire people so I started to write. I authored five books through my publishing company, Gracelight Publisher, which I now use to publish other authors. As one venture led to another, a pattern emerged – a pattern of reinvention and innovation. The resilience that had propelled me through the doors of uncertainty now became the cornerstone of my journey as a serial entrepreneur.
Through the highs and lows, I discovered the art of pivoting, the courage to embrace change, and the tenacity to turn obstacles into stepping stones. Each venture brought its unique challenges, but with every challenge came the opportunity to reinvent myself and my approach.
As the years unfolded, the once-unimaginable path of entrepreneurship became a defining chapter of my life. The setbacks that once seemed insurmountable were now the threads that wove a narrative of resilience, growth, and unyielding determination. From the ashes of that fateful morning, I emerged not as a victim of circumstance but as a serial entrepreneur – a testament to the unwavering spirit that refused to be defined by a single setback.
And so, the journey continued, a symphony of successes and setbacks, with the echo of resilience guiding me through the ever-evolving landscape of entrepreneurship.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
As the founder of Mode Shoes & Purses, I faced a pivotal moment when the demand for shoes for women in sizes 12 to 15 went up, and we could not fulfill these orders. This was because our manufacturers did not want to make those sizes because they were not in high demand. It was a wake-up call that echoed the changing values of our customers.
Recognizing the need to pivot, I gathered my team for an impromptu brainstorming session. We delved into how we could meet this demand and decided it was time to source from another manufacturer. We quickly put out an RFQ and eventually got a vendor who was willing to make these larger sizes. The journey of pivoting Mode Shoes was marked by months of research, but we are able to expand our customer base.
The once-unexpected shift transformed our brand into a trailblazer in the fashion realm.
