Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Florence Beers Araujo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Florence , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
It’s funny how pets’ names almost always evolve into nicknames, isn’t it? What starts as a simple, straightforward name often transforms over time into something more loving and playful. That’s how Micky (my precious little chihuahua) became Peanut, and my handsome terrier mix Rosco became Bean (Cocoa Bean, Rosco Bean, Beanie, Bean. You get the drift). From the moment these two joined our family, capturing their antics became an almost daily obsession—one that gave me immense joy. When the time to decide on a name for my business, the choice was easy. And so Peanut and Bean Photo was born. Micky and Rosco both inspired my brand and my heart, changed me for the better, and gifted me with the purest kind of love I have ever experienced. Long after they are gone, their legacy will live on in the thousands of images I have created in their honor.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was born and raised in El Salvador, Central America, where I was blessed to be surrounded by nature and animals on a daily basis. Unfortunately, I also witnessed firsthand the wretched existence of homeless and stray dogs. It was a daily part of life that always left me feeling sad and hopeless. After twenty years as a children’s photographer in the San Francisco Bay Area, I am thrilled to now have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of dogs rescued from high kill shelters and the streets of Mexico. After moving to Carlsbad, CA, six years ago, and launching my business shortly before the pandemic, I became a volunteer at The Animal Pad, a non profit organization in San Diego dedicated to rehoming and rehabilitating dogs. I am proud to say that for the past 4 years, I have photographed dogs in need of foster care and/or adoption. In 2023 I also sponsored the first annual pet calendar contest that to date has raised over $32,000, all of which has directly benefitted animals in need.
I am also passionate about creating artwork—tangible memories that capture the twinkle in your pets’ eyes, the wag of their tail, and their infinite love for you. From beautiful archival prints, canvas and metal gallery prints, hand soldered frames, and heirloom albums, my biggest wish is that my images become a lasting tribute to the joy your dog has brought into your life.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
As a creative, my journey will never be over. There is ALWAYS room for improvement. That’s the goal that drives and excites me—to keep learning and perfecting my craft so that I can continue producing artwork my clients value and are proud to display in their homes.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Two of the best sources of new client work for me are:
1) Website and Instagram pages. New clients are drawn to the style and spontaneity of my images and want to replicate that with their own dogs.
2) Word of mouth and five star Google reviews
