We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Flor Gonzales a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Flor thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
Starting my own practice was definitely not easy but one of the best decisions I have made in life. Just as all beginnings, requieres a lot of hard work, dedication, taking risks, hard decisions making, and sometimes missing important family/social events, sometimes we need to give up some things in life to grow. That was mi case. But totally worth it.
I used to teach at a cosmetology school and I will always tell my students to never give up, to keep working hard even though things may look cloudy in the beginning, if you work hard and are passionate about your profesión, success will come your way, but it’s also very important to keep educating ourselves to thrive in the beauty industry. There is a lot of competition. I the beauty industry so you need to make sure your are unique and you have something to offer that will set you apart from others.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into the beauty industry since I was 18 years old, I always knew what I want it to do, I been always been so passionate about skin and the beauty industry, at The Facial Room we provide advanced/result driven skin care treatments and medical grade skin care, all related to skin, that’s our specialty. I love helping my clients with their skin concerns, seeing their happy faces after each treatment fills my heart of joy!
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Definitely the whole experience you offer to your clients, from the moment they walk in until they go.
From the way your treat them, if you make them feel comfortable, if you offer something to drink, the smile on your face, the quality of your service, your energy and the way you connect with them.
Definitely this is what is been helping me build the reputation I currently have.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I went to college for a business management degree and even thought in the beginning I felt I was just wasting my time pursuing a college career just to please others, at the end of the day it really helped me to manage my staff and my business.
