We recently connected with Flobo Boyce and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Flobo thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
One of the hardest things about earning a full-time living from your creative work is to decide you want to do whatever it is full-time. There is a bit of a nudge to perform when you “bet on yourself” I think comes only after deciding to take the plunge.
With that said, the most valuable think you can do as a creative or professional is to network. That doesn’t necessarily mean sending cold messages in DM inboxes. What it does mean is taking the moment to connect with the people you come across on a gig day, or following up with emails of social media follows after an event. Offering to be helpful to a new connection can go a long way to building a bond.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am mainly a presenter and esports shoutcaster. I am also a podcaster, mobile DJ and author as well. Though they may seem disparate, I like to say they are all pursuits that allow me to use my “instrument” (in this case my voice, orun of show organization skills and personality) in a way that makes events pop.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I do feel as if there’s a bit more of an opportunity to do even bigger shows and events. I have a proven track record with local and regional events, but large scale opportunities like hosting a nationally broadcasted live event still alludes me.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
They are fun as a collectible for something you like, but I wouldn’t necessarily “invest” in them.
