We were lucky to catch up with Fiona Truc recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Fiona, thanks for joining us today. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
Lived in hair color appointment times are generally longer. The elaborate steps taken to seamlessly blend color allows you to wear your hair much longer. I specialize in blonding naturally dark hair, which typically takes longer to lift. Dimensional color is utilizing your natural hair color as a low light & keeping it rooty. Predominately the color are on the ends.
The upkeep is so minimal. Finding a gorgeous color that enhances your skin color & lifestyle is my favorite thing to do!
Lived-in color allows you to only need a touch-up every 4-6 months. Tone refreshes are recommended 6-8 weeks in between blonding sessions. Once your color is placed, blonding sessions will be necessary when your hair grows out or when you want to go lighter (because it happens to all of us ;)
My clients are able to come in less & enjoy life more.
When their hair grows out, you don’t see the stark growth because it was melting to your natural hair color!
Fiona, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Fiona — founder of Sunkissed Beauty
Sunkissed Beauty was created for me to share my love for beauty: dimensional color, japanese beauty and enhancing natural beauty. I love scalp and hair treatments. A healthy scalp & shiny hair is so underrated. I have solutions for every beauty concern! Whether it’s for an itchy scalp, fine, limp hair or damaged, dehydrated hair that needs some TLC.
Your hair is an accessory that you wear every day and it’s 90% of your profile. I like to say my hair is most of my personality! It’s worth the investment.
I have 13 years of beauty experience. I went to cosmetology school the week after I graduated from high school. A vast part of my career was spent at Bloomingdales as business manager with Shiseido Corp– where I fell in love with japanese beauty.
Retail changed when everyone started shopping online. The department store wasn’t as busy as it once was, we were selling events, gift with purchases, and our personalities and personal touch. That time came, and I realized I needed to go back to doing hair and marry all of my experience together. I wanted create my own brand, my own store with my same clients. And that’s how Sunkissed Beauty was born. The stars aligned when I found Milbon, a luxury japanese brand that reminds me a lot of Shiseido.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I am self funded! Immigrant parents, no hand outs, just hard work. I worked 7 days a week for yearssss. Every single dollar was reinvested back into my business.
