We recently connected with Filippo Bubbico and have shared our conversation below.
Filippo, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
My first connection with music started in my childhood. Both of my parents are musicians, and when I was born, they opened a music school. I basically grew up surrounded by instruments, which quickly became my favorite toys, and it was so much fun!! Over time my passion for music never faded, and when I was 13 I started writing my own songs and, at the same time, exploring computer-based composition for the first time.
After finishing high school I realized that I wanted music to become my profession. That was the moment my professional journey really began. It’s now been over 10 years since I turned my passion into a job, always working to improve, and building a network that could help me make a living out of what I love most.
Looking back I believe it’s really useful to reflect on the past to understand both our strengths and weaknesses, and to see how far we’ve come. But, even more important is to avoid rushing things or feeling anxious about being better than what’s realistically possible in a given moment.
For me, the most important skills have been consistency and a restless mindset. Choosing music as a profession means learning to deal with the emotional ups and downs that naturally come with it. The real challenge is to find new ways to reinvent yourself, especially during moments of doubt or discouragement, which are often the biggest obstacles an artist can face in their career.
Filippo, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always worked hard to create opportunities around me, and this proactive attitude eventually led me to start a career in the music industry. Over the years, I’ve shaped my artistry through the roles of music producer, composer, and mix and mastering engineer. It’s a path that took years of study and experience, and eventually led me to earn a Master’s in Songwriting and Music Production at Berklee NYC.
Aside from my personal artistic projects, my main job is as a music producer and mix and mastering engineer. I work internationally with artists who, through the network I’ve built over the last 10 years, reach out to me because of the speed, professionalism, and passionate involvement I bring to every project. These are qualities that, unfortunately, aren’t always easy to find in this industry, where too often people treat music like just another job, without truly putting passion into it or making themselves fully available with the only goal of creating something beautiful.
This is actually one of the things people recognize in me most often, and it’s something I’m really proud of. Feeling an artist’s genuine gratitude for both the way I approach my work and for the quality of the final result is incredibly rewarding. It’s also a great way to build new connections and, sometimes, even new friendships.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I aim to contribute to the emotional and psychological growth of those who connect with my music. For me, it’s a way to play my part in making society a better place.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
