Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Figgy Fig. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Figgy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
Yes, I’m currently working full-time in the creative space. I’m part of the midday show, In The Loop on SportsRadio 610 here in Houston, Texas. It’s been a long and rewarding journey. I started with Audacy Inc. back in 2012 in Cleveland, Ohio, where I was an intern on the promotions team. At the time, everything felt fast-paced and larger than life — watching DJs and media personalities work up close was both exciting and intimidating. I wasn’t sure if I was cut out for it.
It wasn’t until I moved to Houston in 2016 that I got my first opportunity on the programming side, and in 2017, I officially became a producer. I truly believe the timing was part of God’s plan — the long road helped me appreciate the moment when I finally got my shot. It also taught me the importance of building genuine relationships. Looking back, I feel like I was meant to be doing this right here in Houston.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My path into radio was definitely unconventional. I didn’t graduate from high school, but I earned my GED and always had a passion for music. Growing up in Cleveland, I wanted to be a rapper — and I actually did perform locally, even opening up for a young Machine Gun Kelly before he blew up. It was fun, but it wasn’t paying the bills. I was working a regular 9-to-5 job that didn’t fulfill me, and I knew I needed a change.
That’s when I discovered Ohio Media School. My goal at the time was to use it as a stepping stone to promote my music — maybe get an internship at a hip-hop station and sneak my songs on. But something unexpected happened: I fell in love with radio. I completed my classes, landed a promotion job with Audacy Inc., and stayed there for four years. Even though I didn’t move up the way I hoped, I stayed focused.
Eventually, I saw an opportunity in Houston and made the move, determined to get on-air. In 2017, I got my break producing for SportsRadio 610, and over time, I worked my way up to full-time. Now, I’m the third voice on In The Loop, with my own daily segment that connects directly with the audience. A big part of that connection comes from my social media presence — I post consistently, create reels, and engage with my followers in a real way. That content plays a huge role in how I connect with people both on and off the mic.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I think the hardest part about building an audience on social media is managing the expectation that it’s supposed to happen overnight. It’s a real grind. There are days where it feels like nobody’s watching or engaging, and that can be discouraging. But you can’t let that stop you. The key is to find your niche — something you’re truly passionate about — and just keep posting. Stay consistent. It may not happen right away, but if you keep showing up and creating, the traction will come.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think one of the biggest things people can do, in general, is just show support. A simple like or comment can go a long way. It’s funny, because a lot of times people will come up in person and tell you how much they love what you’re doing online, and I’ve always thought that was kind of backwards. That same love should be shown on social media, too. It costs nothing to engage, and that little bit of support can make a big difference for someone creating content.
