We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Fharren Mason a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Fharren, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.

To begin, I’d just like to say THANK YOU GOD! I took a risk of starting my business in February 2018 and uprooting myself and my two sons to Texas for better opportunities in October 2020.

I took the risk of starting my business because it was heavy on my heart and literally all I thought about. The signs had been there, but being that I was going through life I used it as an excuse to prolong starting up. I was scared and insecure that I wouldn’t succeed, but with faith being all I had left at that moment in my life and knowing if I didn’t do it, then I had already failed so, I TOOK THE RISK!

After taking online courses and certifications and still not seeing the instant gratification that I (shouldn’t have) expected. Coming from a smaller state like Arkansas, I’ve ALWAYS felt like Texas was where I needed to be, I had to
move because God said so. That’s when I knew the real risk was just getting started. I HAD to have faith! A single mother of two with the desire to be a professional personal stylist and personal shopper in today’s economy. Right?!?

Guess what, NO, business didn’t boom overnight just because I relocated BUT I’m surrounded by MORE. I went through a deep depression so I knew it was time for me to put the work in to make taking that risk more than worth it!

Step out on faith and TAKE THAT RISK!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

I know that I’m not the only entrepreneur that has faced this, but for me to KEEP GOING even when things aren’t peachy. I know there’s purpose from God in my business so I couldn’t quit if I wanted to.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

There are soooo many lessons in this life that we’re all still unlearning, but I’d have to stay an important lesson I had to unlearn was to not compare my journey to other peoples journeys because we all have our own!
