We were lucky to catch up with Feva Daniels recently and have shared our conversation below.
Feva, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I have served over two decades in the beauty industry. Giving my time, energy, blood, sweat, and tears to those who needed me being that chair. I also lost my identity behind that same chair, working my fingers to the bone. Not to mention, the main source of my identity was ripped from me at the tender age of four years old.
I had to re-track my identity.
I learned that you can’t pour from an empty cup. I need to be filled in order to continue to serve as I do. So, I took my life back and now I’m teaching my methods to the leaders who are simply tired of going undervalued, unseen and unheard. I am passionate about helping people accept who they are and work forward towards a RIGHT NOW change. I will help you bridge the gap between your darkest fears and your deepest desires. Let’s find you together. Just call me your personal FUELING STATION!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
When I was seven years old, I really loved Patti LaBelle, and one day I decided to curl my hair like Patti LaBelle ‘s 1980’s punk rock spiked hair style. I decided to recreate that same style on my head with these very small curling irons. When my mom got home, she was mad to say the least, What I had done to my head at the age of seven years old was outstanding. Once she finished fussing at me. She turned to me and said, your hair does look good, how did you do that? So that was my introduction to falling in love with becoming a hairstylist. After being a beauty professional for quite some time. One thing I realize about being an entrepreneur is most entrepreneurs do not learn about the business behind their brand, entrepreneurship. They mostly learn about the service they’re providing. But not nearly enough to sustain a successful business. So, I personally decided that I no longer wanted to be blind behind the business part of entrepreneurship. I wanted to understand about money and how it really mattered and how to spend it too. I wanted to learn how to be more approachable, and how to grow my businesses. I want it to be more relatable to gauge my audience. Hell, I didn’t even know what a target audience is, right. So, I decided to dig deeper and learn about business.
Now, when it comes to my business, the beauty salon. I like to arrive at the crack of dawn, get the music going, the right scents for the day, coffee brewing and really setting the ambience. So, when people start arriving, they feel like love is already in the place. By the end of the day, I like to make sure everything is nice and neat and set for the next day. I currently own a beauty salon called Hair Relics Beauty & Nail Salon. Also, I own a school called Hair Relics Advanced. Where I educate licensed practitioners on the business behind the brand of beauty. They come and elevate their brand by learning the latest trends and techniques in beauty. I’m only one person so I also made the space conducive for other educators that would like to come in and use the space to teach their courses. I have recently joined the club. I have a book out called Push Past your Fears and Run for your Life. It’s an inspirational tale about how life will knock you down that I can promise, but when you get your chance to get up. You better be swinging. You will learn how to swing and get your lick back. By setting boundaries, becoming accountable for your own actions, setting goals and taking the necessary steps to accomplish them. I learned that we also need to take really deep self-examinations. There is literally nothing in this world stopping you from becoming your best self, but you. We really need to be honest with ourselves. Then you’re likely to be able to pinpoint areas in our lives that need work, that you can tighten up on and get better, and the ultimate result is you becoming the very best version of you.
I’m very proud of the woman I’ve become. The last grade I completed was the eighth grade, that’s right you heard me in the 8th grade. I got my first Salon when I was 22 years old, but I did not get my GED until I was 24 years old. That’s to tell you that I’m very determined, hardworking and will not be satisfied with lack. I have owned a total of four beauty salons in my career and a beauty school and several youth organizations, I work with people on personal style, and I teach people how to leverage their business. Because I have a flair for design fashion and art it was a no brainer for me to become an image consultant. I love to personalize people’s style and help them find their brand identity, so they don’t have to go out in the world and try to be a different version of someone else. I teach people how to stand in their authenticity, rise to the occasion and burst forward being the very best version of them. I am Feva Daniels the Identity Extractor.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
During the pandemic, I owned a 14-booth beauty salon in downtown Ferguson, Mo. In march 0f 2020 hit all of us hard mentally and most definitely financially. Now as much as I loved my big beautiful salon, everything in life started crumbling right before my eyes. My personal life was in shambles. I started going through hard times in my marriage. I ended up closing my beauty salon, but I also opened another location in the same month. Actually it turned out to be a sweet deal and a blessing in disguise! During this situation I was told multiple times and on multiple occasions that it was over for me, that I might as well give up because I didn’t have what I needed to proceed with my business. I simply refused to take other people’s word for what my life would be. I literally pushed past every obstacle that was in my way attempting to stop me. Every person that tried to step in and tell me who I wasn’t when I was only trying to find out who I was. I push Pushed right past my fears, and I ran directly towards my destiny. I refuse to allow anyone to stop me. Rather is through words or actions I will always rise to the occasion.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I work with the youth that are interested in the beauty industry. I teach young ladies from the age of 9 through 19 how to work the business behind the brand of beauty, we teach practical and personable skills, how to love on themselves, how to be approachable, and how to approach people. We also teach them how to sell themselves and their craft by doing elevator pitches. We put together a grand hair show for all our youth to strut their stuff. It encourages them and it gives them a sense of self worth. We help build them to become self-aware. Making them proud of what they were able to produce however. In 2022 I went through a divorce. Doing that time, I had just closed out my summer program for the season. The divorce became final during the divorce summer. I was planning on doing an afterschool program for the youth, but then life happened, and I had to deal with that in all of life’s mess. I started to lose myself, and I needed to switch gears so that I could give these children the very best version of me, not a tainted version because of my current life circumstances. So, I stuck a fork in my youth organization just for a minute. I needed to get myself together and make sure everything was good on the home front before I spent time building my young people up. Right now I’m building up my personal brand and it’s going great! I’m super excited because during this entire stressful journey, I have learned more about myself than I ever imagined. I have grown through some things and like always I land on my feet. I developed a 8 week course entitled The Fueling Station. During these 8 weeks, I will work with the leaders who serve wholeheartedly and love to do so. But through the act of serving they lost their identity. These people work timelessly to build other people up, so I will work just as hard to build them back up. We’re going to pull on their strengths and help them become free from fear. Taking their power back, allowing them to walk boldly, confidently and becoming the most authentic version of yourselves. You’re gonna go from woe me to why not me. Now because I’m an image consultant, I have a bonus week, where you’ll receive a photo shoot with a professional photographer. We will have a stylist available to arrange your clothing so you can show up and be your greatest self. We will provide nails and makeup. Oh did I mention your hair will be spruced up. We want to document that moment where you go from Woe me to Why not me!
So yes, great things are happening in my life, and I am extremely excited to see what the rest of 2023 has for me.
