We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Fernando Inzunza Gelix . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Fernando below.
Fernando , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
The story of jurassic tacos, is a story where the desire to get ahead day by day and above all take advantage of the opportunities that are presented daily,
In 2015 Fernando lived in San Diego California having 2 jobs in the restaurant area from Monday to Saturday 75 hours per week a young family of 3 children and a beautiful Wife decide to move to Utah already with experience in the food area they decide to start their business buying a small taco cart for a value of $5k
Giving for all the family’s savings, on April 16, 2016 Fernando decides to start the business in the front yard of his house selling to friends and neighbors,
With many dreams and a lot of desire but without much capital and very humble he undertakes, I always remember the first day as if it were yesterday.
My wife and I making salsas , marinating our meat with great enthusiasm after working for very important restaurant companies in California,
I decided to put in our menu the phrase that said
‘’ Today is our first day, you decide how much you pay for your tacos ’’
It was like leaving our first customers to decide what price would be fair for our product.
That was a start and we were every Saturday Sold out for almost 5 consecutive months, many people a lot of acceptance of our tacos
Until we decided to buy a food truck to expand our sales and working days
Fernando , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We grew up and in the summer of 2017 we signed up to participate in the first taco festival in Utah we were very excited and after a very tiring day almost 3000 people and more than 300 pounds of meats that we made tacos that day, they recognized us with the
Award to the best tacos in the state of Utah 17 taco restaurants and food trucks were the ones who participated in this great taco festival.
Days later we went
Invited to several radio and TV programs that way and with the help of our customers and social media we were able to give a Name to our brand strongly, the following years
2018, 2019 we had the opportunity to participate and come out winners again every year but in 2020, 2021 and 2022
The festival was canceled
until the year of 2023 we were able to have the Opportunity to attend 2 festivals. One called margarita and taco fest.
Which we also won 🏆
And the Utah taco festival we won the recognition of people choice award which fills us with a lot of pride.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Living in a country where the culture and language are different is a way to always start with a lot of resilience every day you have to have the desire to improve yourself, we have made many mistakes which we have learned from them, sometimes you trust a lot of people who speak to you beautifully and want to help you, but however there are a lot of good people, and a small part of people who want to take advantage of your lack of empathy experience in business we grew up very fast
In approximately 6 years we had a fleet of 10 food trucks.
8 restaurants and 10 franchises sold and that carries a very big responsibility, sometimes we think that the bigger the company is , the biggest will be the Income but unfortunately it’s not always like that,
With carry with A lot of administration and sometimes you may have problems with IRS or lawsuits for very basic things
We have had that kind of situation and learned to work to continue in this business model.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social networks are a great help to be able to start showing your business and sometimes it is almost always ourselves who decide to manage the social media of our entrepreneurship.
Which is very good since we know the day to day of our business.
I always recommend taking all kinds of factors good quality in your photos, reels and the focus to whom you want your marketing to reach, it is always good to handle that in the beginning as long as we have the focus of the needs of our business.
