Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Fernanda Franco. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Fernanda, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you share a story about the kindest thing someone has done for you and why it mattered so much or was so meaningful to you?
Being hired twice as a Mexican immigrant. The first time right after finishing my Master’s degree, a kind creative director took a chance on me and sponsored my visa to be a junior graphic designer in their firm, it was the gift of a life time. The second time, it was a Managing Director trusting me do art direct, design and produce a magazine for Private Bank clients.
Fernanda, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a visual artist born and bred in Mexico City, corporate designer for Wall Street as well as an owner of design and branding studio for small business owners and non for profits, I graduated with a MS in Communication Design from Pratt Institute. I am an accomplished visual artist, my artwork is included in curated art sites (Artfully Walls, Art Crate and in licensed artist collections). I am an artist member of the Edward Hopper House & Museum in Nyack, NY. Having lived in New York for over 25 years, my current work explores the concept of identity, the vocabulary of her mexicanidad as a carrier of emotion and essence.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission to create inspirational work either through graphic design or artwork that upon being experienced the user/viewer feels a sense of expansion, growth and hope, a joy for living so that they can inspire the circles where they interact as well.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Many, but more recently, the book by Rick Rubin, The Creative Act and also an upcoming book by Josh Pais Loose your Mind, with whom I have taken acting lessons to access energy and creativity for my artwork.
