We were lucky to catch up with Fernanda Brandini recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Fernanda, thanks for joining us today. How’s you first get into your field – what was your first job in this field?
Born and raised in Brazil I had started my career as a Dietitian at the age of 22. Never imagined moving to the United States but I did when I was 26. I have always had the passion for beauty and fashion but a career in these fields was never a thought in my mind. Originally I was supposed to stay in San Diego for 6 months and move back to Brazil. Everything changed when I got married in San Diego and never moved back. When Keratin Treatments finally arrived in the US I started working as a sales rep for a friend of mine that was importing a product from Brazil. They taught me how to do keratin treatments and I was visiting salons selling the product and teaching hairstylists the technique. Months later, after meeting extremely successful hairstylists I decided to get my cosmetology license and become one of them . After I started working at salons I had noticed the high demand and lack of qualified professionals to do Keratin Treatments. 2 years later I opened my first salon that specializes in Keratin Treatments. That’s all we do!!! I train and certify all the stylists that work with me and business have been great!!! Our clients appreciate that we are all Keratin Specialists and definitely notice the difference between us and other professionals that perform the same service.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
After getting divorced I had to start over from the very beginning. It wasn’t easy but my clients are a tremendous part of my success because they encouraged, inspired and gave me the strength to keep going. We all became one big family and that’s what I love the most about my job. Seeing the smile on my clients face after their hair is done is priceless. Meeting new women every day and learning from them is spectacular! I couldn’t be happier with my career and so proud for everything I have accomplished. My future dream is to train and coach new hairstylists that are just starting to become very successful and change their lives as well!!
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think as a hairstylist, empathy is essential. People look for us to feel beautiful, pampered, listen and for care. I treat every client of mine the same way I treat my family and best friend. Genuinely I feel like they are.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Skills, honesty and customer service in my opinion are the key to success in our industry.
