We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Fermin Bergouignan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Fermin below.
Fermin, appreciate you joining us today. What can you share with us about the story behind how you found your key vendors?
When I first got in the business I found my first manufacturer online doing a basic online Google search. It lead me to Ebay at the time. Part of being a business owner is wearing multiple hats and carrying duties otherwise distributed into tasks via department heads at competing larger firms. Entrepreneurs don’t have the basic luxury of help so i quickly prepared myself to take the role of doing “everything” for the freshly founded company. The first hat is research and development. Second is customer service and last is product the delivery department / installation. After a few successful projects we were off to the races. As you grow the business and begin to develop purchase power soon enough Manufacturers and distributors surprisingly start looking for you to carry their products. I began after a few years, getting calls from manufacturers and distributors nationwide. As we build our brand and the word spread, Companies began calling us to join forces. At this point is when you are really able to negotiate prices and other key factors because you now carry purchase power as a player in the space.
Fermin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started Monster Grass while working at a digital marketing company. I realized the demand for the niche product while working with small businesses helping them advertise. I made an emphasis on picking a catchy name that would be easy to remember. Along with a good name the emphasis in reputable customer service experience with each and every client. At Monster Grass we are all about creating green water conservative lawns that brings families together. Our products make it easy to get outdoors and enjoy with the family.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
We routinely take on jobs others won’t. Small jobs leads to big relationships. Like in any investment, the money longterm is made by compounded interest. The same goes in business, Invest in relationships by understanding that winning is not only comes from profit margins. The real wins are in the compounding effect on the brand overtime by capturing the market one satisfied client after another, over time. This is how you build a brand.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Extra curricular activities outside of the work place is by far the best way to build troop moral in my experience. Taking the team bowling, biking or even out to dinner with all the families. Getting to know each other outside of the work place allows for better communication and understanding between employees which in turns leads to better results for the business and its employees.
