We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ferchi Valentin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ferchi below.
Ferchi, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
As a beauty professional, I recognize the importance of continuous learning in staying current with the latest trends and techniques. I am grateful for the guidance and support of the mentors who have helped me get to where I am today in my career. In particular, Andrea Ramos was instrumental in encouraging me to pursue my ambitions, which ultimately led me to enroll in Paul Mitchell the School of Colorado. While attending beauty school, I had the privilege of learning from Janet (J.Flowerz), a skilled instructor who inspired me to constantly refine my craft.
In addition to my formal education, I have also gained valuable hands-on experience working as an assistant at Coco Marie Salon & Extensions, under the mentorship of Courtney, the salon owner, and Ariana, an extension specialist. Their guidance and instruction have been invaluable in helping me develop my skills as a beauty professional.
In terms of essential skills for success in the beauty profession, I believe that strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a passion for creativity are all critical components. Of course, every individual’s journey is unique, and there are often obstacles that stand in the way of learning more. For me, one of the biggest challenges has been finding a balance between work and education, as I strive to continuously improve my skills while also serving my clients. Nonetheless, I am dedicated to overcoming these obstacles and continuing to grow as a beauty professional.”
Ferchi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Being a part of the beauty industry was not something I had previously considered. After graduating from high school in 2020, I took a gap year to contemplate my career path. While working with my parents, who are semi-truck drivers, I realized that I needed to pursue something that truly ignited my passion. Interestingly, during a trip to my parents’ hometown in Mexico in December of that same year, my mother booked an appointment with her lifelong friend who happened to be a skilled beautician. I accompanied her and was struck by my family friend’s exceptional work ethic and the joy she brought to her clients. She graciously welcomed me into her world and enthusiastically shared her trade with me. Inspired by her enthusiasm, I decided to enroll at Paul Mitchell the School upon my return. After completing my cosmetology program, I pursued an assistant apprenticeship at Coco Marie Salon, where I am now proud to serve as a stylist, delivering my clients’ desired hairstyles with passion and skill.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
As a hairstylist, I find the most rewarding aspect of being a creative artist lies in the positive impact I have on my clients. Not only do I get to express my creativity & artistry, but I also have the opportunity to make my clients happy and help them overcome any challenges they may be facing. Whether it’s a simple haircut or a complete hair transformation, seeing the joy on my clients’ faces and knowing that I have played a part in their happiness is truly fulfilling. Additionally, the beauty industry is constantly evolving, and being a hairstylist allows me to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and techniques while simultaneously using my skills to empower and uplift others. All in all, being a hairstylist has been a rewarding and enriching experience that I am grateful for.
How did you build your audience on social media?
When I first started my social media accounts, I struggled to attract followers and gain visibility. However, I found that by consistently posting high-quality content and engaging with my followers, I was able to slowly build my audience over time. One specific strategy that worked well for me was posting before and after pictures of my work as you’re followers are able to see you’re skills and techniques, something that I haven’t done but will be striving for this upcoming year will be working with other influencers and brands in my industry. This topic is something I personally am still striving to constantly grow and learn more of !
my advice if you’re looking to grow you’re social media presence would be to focus on creating valuable content that resonates with your target audience. Use hashtags and other tools to help people find your posts, and engage with your followers by responding to comments and direct messages. Collaborating with other influencers or brands can also be a great way to reach new audiences and build relationships in your industry. And don’t be afraid to experiment with different types of content or posting schedules to see what works best for you and your audience, because we always hear to just post on certain days and times but I believe its different for everyone therefor don’t be scared to experiment !.”
