Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to FENIX & FLO. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi FENIX , thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
We both as children knew that music was our path and woven into our life’s purpose. Both in separate places singing and rapping honing our crafts along the journey until meeting eachother in Atlanta.
After meeting we collaborated on a few photography projects. Flo being a photographer and Fenix being a model, the creative collaborations began there.
It was after a few collaborations that led us to just hangout together and began to support eachother’s main focus which is music.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Before merging gifts Fenix & Flo were both on a mission to educate and entertain the young & seasoned through our gifts.
Fenix had a band in Harlem, NY curating events in the city while Flo in Atlanta hosting events and having a weekly showcase for artists from poets, singers, dancers…. Flo hosted a popular Atlanta hub called The Green Room, owned and operated by the legendary actress Terri J. Vaughn (Steve Harvey Show)
One connection that was amazing to witness, Flo who is often compared to Common (Rapper/Actor) – meets Fenix after she appeared in one of Common’s most recent music video’s “When We Move” Fenix appeared as a model.
Being a couple we stand out automatically.
Our plan is to bring that good feel back to music, sonically delivering soul food. Since our musical tastes were developed by The Greats – we take on the mandate to expound off ofd of that greatness and give the masses what’s been missing.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The goal and mission we have is to not only deliver a fresh new but nostalgic vibe of Hip Hop & Soul. We work to also leave a blueprint for upcoming artists/creatives to be different from what the mainstream promotes, while also showing the business of music side.
When we started our music group, two of our first steps were getting our business license and business checking account. From building business to publishing and moving into the film industry. We are studying music and keeping a solid foundation when it comes to growing our LLC.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Individually we both had challenges in the industry from working with shady industry people on the modeling side to the music side.
From bad deals to dealing with the politics in the modeling/music industry.
Working jobs and not being able to put ample time into our crafts. Being patient and growing to now work with some of the legends has kept us motivated and our eyes on the goal to become that new super group.
So many stories to mention on both of our ends. Being in the biz for well over 2 decades and still focused and untainted by the industry in itself is a testament of our resilience.
