We were lucky to catch up with Femi Adebanjo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Femi thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I took a risk to buy my first home in 2002 cause I was tired of paying someone else’s mortgage & boom a week later get laid off from work. The risk I took just stretched my tolerance cause everyone told me to sell it before the 1st Payment was due. I don’t really subscribe to that theory. Had to buckle down & figure it out that life is all about risks. You don’t take them, you will never know how far you can actually take something. Stayed in that house 4.5 years & then scaled up to a bigger place

Femi , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into real estate in 2002. Bought my first home a month after getting licensed. Been doing real estate now for 20 years at a high level. I am a pretty competitive person so I challenge myself to do better each & every single year. I invest in my craft by going to conferences, seminars to keep myself in tune with the market but also my mental well being to be able to help my clients who most of them love me to death. My motto is pretty simple. I treat people how I want to be treated & keep it real with them so they know that I’m coming from a genuine place when I give advice
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Honestly just doing right by people helped propel my business. 30 years ago we had no social media & I had no business so I had to hit the pavement. The good & bad thing about real estate is you do right by people they sing your praises to others. You do bad, they will also tell everyone about you so you really had to value your name & reputation cause that’s the lifeline of my business is referrals

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My son got sick while we were on vacation. His pneumonia was so bad he had to be airlifted from 2 hospital to another.. a week vacation turned into a month of hell cause he almost passed away. That year I was still able to finish out the year strong even though my mind was all over the place. Bad things that happen to you or family you cannot let that be the deterrent for the rest of your year or life even though it’s not easy
