Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Felicia Todd. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Felicia, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
It was always SaseeChic, just not the one you know of and love today. Just not the one you know of and love today.
It went through a few iterations before becoming an online boutique. The initial idea came from food. Yes, food in a not-so-subtle way. Watching my grandma and my mom in the kitchen growing up, gave me a penchant for cooking. My potato salad and mac and cheese were always holiday favorites to make but my chicken salad was on another level.
So in late 2011, SaseeChic was born. The idea was to package my chicken salad and take it to stores as samples. Then hoping the samples would become orders. It was short-lived due to eggs being an ingredient and I believe a concerning factor.
Not one to give up, I started dabbling in makeup as an MUA. Taking classes and going to seminars from some of the greatest. Makeup by Cherry, (add the MUA who was supposed to move to Cali also), Sylvia, and A.J. Crimson. I actually had the pleasure of assisting Makeup by Cherry on a wedding. With this experience and training, I began to venture out into doing makeup for photo shoots, and weddings and giving back to at-risk women. Seeing how these women were confident after the makeover, gave me the strength to try my hand at blogging. With this, my message was to “ Be Confident, Be Unique, Be you! And we never make apologies for it.
Blogging about style came easy because I was already thrifting for different patterns, colors, and textures plus my love of high heels as a curvy/plus size woman. This caught the attention of a few brands that wanted to collaborate with me! Me of all people! One of which was Eshatki!
This among with being on panels for events and featured in magazines such as The Voyage ATL and others was a humbling experience. The collaborations taught me if I could help sell items for other companies, why couldn’t I do it for myself and here I am world!
