Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Felicia Saunders. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Felicia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I get this question often. R1twenty Photography, what’s that mean?
My business name is based off of a bible verse- Romans 1:20. Basically I want to capture the beauty in Gods’ creation. Whether that be by capturing newborns and children which is my specialty, or capturing families, couples, landscapes. Events, or business owners finding joy and beauty in their fields. As long as I’m capturing in the moment, the beauty of the creation, it is special to me.
Felicia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Of course! My name is Felicia Saunders and I have been a photographer for a little over 10 years now! I have been doing this full time for about two years. I specialize in newborn & children’s photography, but offer general photography to cover all needs. It is super special to me. I want my potential clients to feel like their images or videos are special to them, I want the feelings and the love to flow through the images I capture for them, or through the video I shoot for them.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
So in the same day I had a success and a “fail” if you want to call it that. So go on this quick story with me.
I received a call from a potential client about coverage for an event, in the end I was out of budget and the person hung up on me. I remember feeling thrown off by that, but I knew ultimately if I wasn’t going to fit their needs, they’ll find someone else who would.
In that same day I had a consultation with a couple for a wedding. The bride cried when answering questions about her big day & all she envisioned. She thanked me for asking certain questions, and mentioned how personal her wedding seemed to me. This couple booked me. I shot their wedding and had an absolutely wonderful time doing it.
In these two instances I took something personal to heart. The first being, it hurt for a second to feel ” rejected” when I heard the phone hang up. It’s easy to get in your head, we are typically our biggest critics. The second scenario, I did feel personally involved and invested in this couples love story and making sure I did my job with excellence. I felt so good leaving that consultation knowing that I had the blessing of meeting great clients and getting to capture their big day.
The moral of the story. Take the risk. Put your best foot forward, some people will choose you, others won’t and that’s ok. You have the opportunity to make an impact in the field you’re in and your clients make an impact on you too.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
My clients. The working relationships and stories I get to know because of my work is amazing. I love that I get to constantly meet new people and help tell their stories through photos or video. I also love that because of this job I have the freedom to choose my own schedule to be as involved in my home life as possible.
