Felicia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?

Success means different things to different people, and as someone who recently decided to turn my vision board into a reality by transforming my passion for baking into a business, I am still defining what success looks like in this area. However, I can confidently claim success in my roles as a wife, mother, author, and public administrator.

For me, success involves learning and growing while building a thriving baking business and balancing the many hats I wear. It’s challenging because we all have the same 24 hours in a day, but strategy, determination, and faith help me navigate it all while trusting God through the process. Some days are focused solely on baking, while others require my attention on family or my full-time job. No two days are the same.

Ultimately, success takes humility, perseverance, and a willingness to put in the hard work required to achieve your goals, one step at a time.

I’m Felicia, the founder of CakesbyFP, a custom cake and cupcake business in South Florida. At CakesbyFP, we craft heavenly desserts to elevate your celebrations, blending quality ingredients, creative designs, and a passion for excellence. My goal is to turn your sweetest dreams into reality.

My baking journey began over a decade ago as a hobby. After earning my master’s degree, I found myself with time to explore new interests, and baking was the one that stuck. It became more than just a pastime—it became my therapy and a source of immense joy. Sharing my creations with family and friends was the first step, and each time someone tasted one of my recipes, they told me I needed to open a bakery. Those words of encouragement stayed with me and eventually inspired the creation of CakesbyFP.

What sets us apart is the personalized touch in every order. Whether customers have a theme, a color, or just a flavor idea, I love collaborating to create cakes that are as stunning as they are delicious.
I’m most proud of turning my passion into a business that helps people celebrate life’s milestones, big or small. Whether it’s a birthday, wedding, or any special occasion, my goal is to make every cake a centerpiece of happiness. How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

My career in public administration has spanned nearly two decades, and I’ve loved serving my community through that work. However, it took time to realize that while I was passionate about my career, I also had another love—baking. For years, I felt like I was living as a one-dimensional being, focusing solely on one aspect of my life.

The truth is, God gives us all unique gifts, and I came to understand that I wasn’t limited to just one. Baking became a creative and therapeutic outlet for me, and eventually, I decided to embrace it fully by sharing my creations with others. This pivot wasn’t about leaving one passion behind but about allowing myself to honor and work through all the gifts I’ve been given. Now, I’m able to serve my community through public administration and bring joy to people’s lives through my baking. Both pursuits bring fulfillment, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to share them with the world.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?

The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been a combination of social media and good old-fashioned word of mouth. While social media is undeniably powerful in today’s world, nothing beats the impact of customer satisfaction and personal recommendations.

Many new clients have come to me after tasting my cakes or cupcakes at someone else’s celebration, and I often hear them say, “I’ve found my cake lady!” These moments are so rewarding because they affirm the quality of my work and the joy it brings to others. Even better, many of those first-time customers turn into loyal, repeat clients who trust me to make their special occasions even sweeter.

Word of mouth and a commitment to creating memorable desserts have been key to growing my business and building lasting relationships with my clients.
