We were lucky to catch up with Felicia Okonkwo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Felicia, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Going through a difficult divorce was the catalyst for realizing a common truth: many of us face the challenge of starting over at 40. My friends and I shared similar stories about navigating this transition, and that’s exactly how the idea for TheMaturedCollective40plus was born. I wanted to build an experience focused on forming meaningful new connections and cultivating lasting friendships during this pivotal life stage.

Felicia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Resilience, in the context of the TheMaturedCollective40plus demographic, is the ability to effectively adapt and thrive in the face of significant midlife adversities, transitions, and the unique stresses of the 40+ age group.
This population often demonstrates a high degree of resilience, drawing on decades of experience, emotional regulation skills, and a long-term perspective.
Resilience for the 40+ collective is not just about “bouncing back” but about growing through the inevitable transitions of midlife, leveraging accumulated wisdom, and maintaining a hopeful outlook.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn was learning not to be a people pleaser.
Unlearning the compulsion to please others is often a key developmental task in midlife. By the 40s and beyond, the accumulated costs of neglecting personal needs and boundaries often become unsustainable, leading to burnout, resentment, or a lost sense of self.
This shift allows me to redirect the energy previously spent on managing other people’s feelings toward investing in my own well-being and genuine purpose, which is true resilience.
