Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Felicia Nicole. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Felicia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
During the first year of the Covid-19 Pandemic I grew depressed in the workplace. It initially started when we were forced to work from home. As an educator who was writing the curriculum for other educators, doing it from home and not face to face alongside my other colleagues affected the way I felt about my career. Eventually, I went back into the office, but I was still stuck behind a computer and confined to four walls. I started getting headaches and my blook pressure was through the roof. The idea of starting an online boutique came to mind and I launched A Few Pieces Boutique in December of 2020. It’s my pandemic baby! It brought me so much joy. I was going live on Facebook from my makeshift boutique in my home. I was connecting with my customers. I saw a need and was able to fulfill it and gain the trust of some many women. The following August 2021 I left my career in education because I needed a mental health break and geared my focus towards what made me happy. . .my boutique.

Felicia , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m just a regular woman who likes to get dressed up and look pretty every day. I’m also an educator turned entrepreneur who has a husband that allowed me to take a mental health break from my career and focus my energy on something I love doing…. getting dressed! As I previously stated, I left education fourteen months ago. It’s important that you know I did not leave my career for my business. I left because I was in a deep depression, and I needed to do something different to bring myself out of it.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
For the first 10 months of my business, my full-time job was my main source for business funding. I received a grant from the City of Savannah that I applied for. I applied for so many grants that were seeking small business owners, female business owners, and even minority business owners and never received so much as an email back from anyone. After the first three months in business, Shopify began to offer me capital funds that I used to fund my business and those funds came in handy and they didn’t have to run your credit.

How did you build your audience on social media?
While I may not have a huge following, my followers were true supporters of me, my brand, and my business. There wasn’t a day that went by that I didn’t post new arrivals, my logo, and the day-to-day operations of my business. I was very transparent. I made sure all of my social media pages were speaking the same language at all times. I would literally flood the timelines with all things A Few Pieces. I made sure I responded to every comment and any private messages that were about business. That’s how I was able to build trust my audience.
