We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Felicia Morgan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Felicia, thanks for joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
Rewritten Hearts came to me while I was driving. I already had a blog at the time under a different name. I’m headed to work, worshipping and singing and there was a line in the song about writing our story and then BAM! I suddenly got this vision and the word “Rewritten” I saw the colors and everything. When I was able to later that night I went to buy the domain, but it was taken. i went through different options and asked my friends for help and that’s where Hearts was added on to Rewritten to make it Rewritten Hearts. I had an idea at the time of what it meant. That was several years ago, and I’m just now really seeing, even more so this past year, the bigger picture of Rewritten Hearts to help other women to be confident in themselves despite the brokenness they may have experienced.
Felicia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started out as a girl that was very unsure of herself. Blogging and providing encouragement on Youtube was sort of an outlet for me. There have been times I’ve tried to stop but then I just get more ideas and this fire to get back in the trenches. At the end of the day it’s not about me so it’s been a lot of trial and error. But I’m learning more and more how to service my audience based on things I’ve learned and the experiences I’ve overcome so they don’t have to take as long as me. My main mission is helping women rewrite the negative narrative they’ve believed in order to fully embrace, love and own who they are. so many of us have lacked confidence, including myself, but the world needs each of us to embrace who we are and how God designed us to be.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When i started my Youtube channel i just jumped right in, I had no idea what I was doing. I just felt a push to do and went for it and fell flat on my face. I was focused really hard on making my niche until one day a podcast or conference I was listening to said to let your niche come to you. Make the content, figure out what works for you. Discover what you enjoy making and stop making it so hard. When I stopped forcing it and being more natural with what I had to offer it’s been easier, more fun, and more relatable for my audience.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Last year I got completely burned out. I was going through a few transitions in life, I was in school, I was stressed out, overwhelmed, depressed and I ran completely out of ideas. I felt like a literally hit a brick wall. I was completely lost and stopped everything. I got the help I needed, I started healing the wounds I had overlooked for a long time, I learned to lean on my friends and my community for help, because I’m very much the ‘I got it’ person. I took things off of my plate and I learned to just love on me and give myself what I needed. It’s been slow getting back up but everyday I make a choice to keep going and I’m proud of me for that, even though some days I can’t say that I am. But I’m learning to show up for me, and show up for my dreams now.
