We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Felicia Forbes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Felicia below.
Felicia, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Signing the lease for my first almost 10’years ago was one of the biggest risk I ever took. This whole journey to starting a juice company has been risk after risk. But betting on myself is something I’ve vowed to always do. I just have a little faith and let God handle the rest The day I was supposed to sign the lease I actually got cold feet and didn’t go and started dodging the phone calls. I sat there and I said life is too short to be afraid and I have other options! So I signed and it changed my whole life.
Felicia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Felicia Forbes, the owner of Freckle’s Juice
“For as long as I can remember, I’ve been driven by a desire to serve and make a positive impact on my community. I never imagined that this would manifest in owning a juice bar, but in 2014, I found myself searching for purpose. Every job opportunity seemed to lead to a closed door, and it was through this journey that I discovered a passion for health and wellness. This path led me to entrepreneurship, and ultimately, to Freckle’s Juice, where I can now fulfill my purpose of serving my community through health-conscious offerings.”
“It took a lot of resilience to get to where I am today because I had to build almost everything on my own. Without a mentor to guide me, I learned through trial and error, creating my own blueprint with little to no funding. I’ve faced countless failures and made many mistakes, but every day that I serve my community and receive their feedback makes it all worth it. I’m still laying the foundations, but I see Freckle’s Juice carrying on for decades to come. This is more than just a business—it’s a legacy. Health is wealth, and I’m committed to making that accessible to everyone.”
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Recently, I lost 6 team members in one day. It was crazy because for months I knew something fishy was going on but I just didn’t want to face the fact or follow that gut feeling ! Lesson learned ! The reason we have these feelings are for warnings to help us! However I went against it. Then one night I noticed something that was off, so I checked the cameras only to see two of my most valuable employees stealing a bunch of cash. So I went back to watch more videos only to see them doing it countless times. This really broke me but also caused me to evaluate how I have been running my business, my carefree attitude and my lack of organization. When you are not running your company with correct policies and standards employees will run it to the ground. I also learned to not hire based on availability but on alignment. Does this person care about the mission ? Is what I will now focus on.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Today I actually made the decision to close
One of our new locations in Brooklyn! I realize it’s time to pivot because it’s not performing at its potential. It’s hard and disappointing decision to make but it is time to let go and focus my energy else where to create more greatness! I’ve learned location location matters !! Trust your gut !
