We recently connected with Felicia Demers and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Felicia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
My Legacy, that is a big question… As a business owner you have created something from scratch, nurtured it to be what it is, and then you think about what will be. I truly want my legacy to be about connection.
In my business I have to meet total strangers and take their photos, a but intimidating some may say haha.
My goal is to try to connect with each one deeper than surface level, I also think that helps me get creative and get great photos that are a perfect blend of their personality and my photography style.
When you see a photograph not only should you think about the photographer and subject, but how the photographer was able to take picture that tells a whole story which I think has to do with connection to the subject.
Connection means so much to me and I hope my clients remember the connections I have made with them, because I surely wont forget it.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
In 2016 I lost my brother, it turned my whole world upside down and I started to see things differently. The world is now so real and every moment is extremely cherished.
Photos is one thing that will stand by even after we are all gone.
To be the one behind the camera and capturing moments of life is such a treasure. These photos will be passed down through generations all because my clients chose to invest in me.
Not only do I hold onto the treasure I am able to give my clients, being able to go and attend these weddings or taking someones graduation photos… those are memories that will stick with me forever and I am truly grateful to be involved in so many big life events.
In my business and personal life I give all thanks to God for giving me every opportunity, He leads me and I try my best to follow.
My business is all about having faith, being able to educate my clients so they’re set up for success, and capturing the most fun moments!
I really put myself in my clients shoes and try to educate them on everything that has do to with their event/photoshoot. I ask them their priorities because one persons priority may not be someone else’s. I am here to help with it all, like creating a relaxed timeline for their wedding day, giving them actual pdfs on what to expect, providing style and visions boards, and I am ALWAYS here to talk if they need to discuss any details or just talk things out because you never know what is going to happen creatively in those discussions.
I LOVEEE seeing my clients have the best time. I will do my best for wedding days to create a timeline that sets the day up for success, and creating a relaxed timeline is the biggest game changer!
When it comes to my graduates/seniors and engagement photoshoots, questions I love to ask them is what movie or character they connect with and then branch off of those ideas so I can quickly understand their vision and who they are or want to show that side of (as movie/tv buff myself it helps SO much haha).
At the end of the day I am allll about making sure my clients leave with their cups overflowing and providing them with pics that make them remember each special moment. :)

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
It has been such a blessing being able to sustain a business for as long as I have because it truly takes a village. The biggest source of new clients is really based on word of mouth!
Instagram + Google definitely help but word of mouth is top tier.
The client usually comes in and already knows your work and your worth and that means everything.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think because I am an “untraditional” photographer to begin with I get a lot of glances like “what the heck is she doing” haha but when it comes to the operational side of things is we aren’t just taking pretty photos, we have to maintain the business and do the non-creative things too. We also get our own “writers block” where the creativity isn’t flowing like usual and that is why it is so important to find the right clientele because someone who doesn’t share the same vision as you can cause you to have your own creative block. If each client and idea you come up with inspires you the photos will show it. We are also being vulnerable every single time we pose our clients, take a picture, edit it, and share it with the world.
Its quite a mix of emotions haha but you soon get used to it all, not saying those things dont happen anymore, but you learn how to deal with them better.
