We recently connected with Fazon Gray and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Fazon, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
In the industry people have often have expected me to have a certain attitude or be quite egotistical.
However, when I am on set, I am really focused on good vibes and energy and on getting the job done as best possible.
Sometimes I find myself in creative director mode and sometimes I am expected to just be a model and pretty face, but I love when I have the opportunity to be more hands on and creative with shoots.

Fazon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was brought into the modelling industry by friends that hosted fashion shows in New Jersey. I was stopped in the street by photographers, and I slowly realised that every-time I tried to do a different job I was always pulled back into modelling.
Over the past ten years I have been modelling for brands in fitness, fashion, commercial, editorial and runway. This has evolved into acting which has currently become a new passion of mine.
I am most proud of the people that I influence and have impacted from my community and from similar situations who feel there is another platform to express themselves artistically.
What sets me apart is my drive, ambition and perseverance no matter what obstacles I am facing.
I love working on building my own brand in the non-for-profit sector dedicated at brining opportunities to my community in Harlem – called Live Learn Win.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Society can best support artists and creatives by paying them for their work. By allowing them to have opportunities, respecting their time and not allowing gatekeepers to stop people with actual talent.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is whenever I see the finished product it makes everything that you go through – before and on set worth it.
