Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Fayez Nowar. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Fayez, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
I had always seen many individuals on Instagram post pictures of food, but I never really thought of starting my own page until I went to NYC a couple of years ago, and my cousin encouraged me to start it and see how it would go. I am blessed to have such a fantastic platform to showcase the good and bad of different restaurants in the area. I believe that being honest when reviewing restaurants is most important because it gives credit where it is due. I have always been intrigued by taking photos specifically of food from different parts of the world when I visit distinct and unique countries all around the world. It is crazy how food allows us to connect with one another and share that connection with other people from different cultures!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am blessed to have such a platform to showcase and support different restaurants in the DFW area because of the individuals I have met through this account. I am proud that I am to continue this food-blog journey while working, studying, and doing so much. I am currently a college student pursuing a double major in Spanish and Biology at UNT. I also work as a Medical Assistant for Dr.Dina Rahhal, and I help my dad out at my family’s restaurant. I appreciate every single follower I have because of their constant support, especially during COVID when so many restaurants shut down and dine-in was not an option then. I am proud of the fact that I have been able to accomplish so much while studying as well as working full-time because time management is the most important aspect to consider when starting a page like mine. I could not have done it without Allah (God) because these past few years have been tough, but I just kept praying and it all worked out for the better.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being creative would definitely have to be being able to support local restaurants, especially family-owned establishments because I would rather be spending my money on small businesses than big chain corporations. Honesty is the best policy- this is what I tell myself constantly because I want to be transparent and honest with my reviews, and I am grateful to be able to do so through the platform I have. I enjoy getting invited to different events in order to try out a restaurant before they open in order to give my followers my review and opinion of the restaurant and whether or not it is worth trying it. Having a food blog has allowed me to elevate my palette because of the wide range of cuisines I have tried and enjoyed throughout the four years I have been doing it. At first, it was difficult starting up, but once I got the hang of it, it definitely got easier.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I believe the most effective strategy that I have learned in order to grow my followers and supporters would have to be the ability to speak different languages in order to reach other individuals. Since TX has such a large population of individuals that speak Spanish, I learned to incorporate Spanish in ALL of my reviews in order to allow them to read and understand my stance on a certain restaurant I am reviewing. Having this ability has definitely allowed me to grow as a person because I am able to connect with different types of individuals from different Hispanic backgrounds.
