We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Favour Obasi-ike a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Favour thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
We worked with a family business called “CW Haircare” during the pandemic. They provide families with organic hair products to re-enhance their hair edges with a natural look. When we started working with them, they only had 250 YouTube subscribers, short of 6k email subscribers and low website traffic.
We, then, decided to build out a marketing plan that will combat their biggest need which was brand awareness. We started by connecting their website to Google Search Console, submitting their sitemap for indexing, and then started publishing new webpages as blog posts, with keyword research applied, to start driving engagement and conversions.
This opened up a new door for us to explore Pinterest & YouTube (also known as search engines) which is where we started getting new subscribers and creating evergreen content to answer all the frequently asked questions about growing your edges and keeping your hair healthy using blogs, and YouTube videos.
We did this for 12 months and after optimizing their business online, they started to rank on the top pages of Google, Pinterest, and YouTube which resulted to them having 3.5K YouTube subscribers and over 13K email subscribers!

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
The advice I would give people who want to manage a team and maintain high morale is to first start off by asking them questions that are personally driven and motivationally driven.
How I was able to do this was by starting off by asking them specific questions like, what is your main purpose in life? How do you work best under pressure and without pressure? And what is your main drive for achieving success? These questions are very important to ask your team because it helps you to know where their mind is at and how you can be able to motivate them with more information that they can use to give you a more enhanced business operation.
What I do with my team now is we meet on a weekly basis for an hour to discuss business roles and deliverables, and in between the week we are able to communicate further via WhatsApp and click up which is a project management software tool that we use for clients.
Lastly, the advice I would give for managing a team is to lead by example and not lead with the intention of being aristocratic. How you can maintain high morale by also giving your team bonuses in between the year depending on what they are doing, and this could be very helpful for them because they feel appreciated and they also feel well respected.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson I had to unlearn quickly was how to determine and stick with my pricing.
When I started running my business, I had the pure intention of helping people because how I started off doing this was because I started off with my entertainment business graduate program and my goal in that Master’s degree was to graduate with a website that I built based on an idea I’ve executed. I couldn’t get to that website or have ownership of the website because I paid for that website to be made during my school year but up until today I have not received that website so I had to disrupt my own business plan for school which made me realize that when people pay for things they pay attention to it but I realized even more importantly when people pay more for something they pay more attention to it.
I was able to use this in my business and I realized that my pricing was a little bit on the lower end. Hence, people were not really as serious or they were not taking me seriously until I decided to increase my price and not just increase the price also having tears that allow you to choose between the costs and that is the beginning of creating relationships that people would actually want to have with you long term.
