We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Favian Navarro a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Favian, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I might be the last person to give a great example of what it takes to be successful. But I do know I’ve had very many small successes through out my journey. One thing for sure is to always keep an open mind and evolve yourself to be greater. Read your books, listen to your body, and be healthy. Your minds a muscle and your body is what carries you, so treat it right.
Understand your clients, get to know them. Ive learned the more I’ve laughed with my clients I get an understanding of who they are. They’re not a number, they’re putting food on your table for a quality service, the stronger your relationship is with your client, the more in mind they’ll have you for word of mouth marketing (The best one out there)
Your work represents you, so if every project is to a great success (im not saying perfect, don’t be hard on yourself) that you had your full heart in it, the more success will be brought to you, Understand you’re a magnet, so if you want different, do different, and it’ll come.
Being self employed and chasing “success” can be overwhelming at times. So have an understanding and control over your emotions. Making an emotional decision can have a big effect at times, so if you feel a certain way, feel it and let it go, then revisit what you need to.
Chasing “success” will only bring stress in my opinion. if you had a thought thatll push you forward for the greater, that’s already a success on its own. With so many things out here to distract us, you still chose to grow yourself or apply your proper time to your business. Be appreciative of your discipline, and be proud of yourself. There’s nothing cheesy about that.
These are just personal opinions I feel can lead to the road of more successes in a lifetime. Everything I’ve learned mostly from reading books and experience.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My names Favian Navarro, I started my journey with videography when I was with a network marketing company (that’s another story) around 2014, I noticed other teams had a video guy who made their trips look amazing, our team lacked that and I seen it as an opportunity to gain more clients. I took the responsibility on and had no idea what I was doing, but I kept doing it. Fast forward, i have a few family members and friends who were artists and made music, I expanded my horizon and started to shoot music videos for them, still learning based off trial and error because there’s no how to videos on YouTube yet. Now I needed money.. and for some odd reason I refused to take on Weddings or quinceneras , but I finally did, bringing a stable income I needed. Ive always believed in providing the best and highest quality I can, because lets face it, who wants to see a Facebook status saying our quality is trash…. so I provide a cinematic view for the clients when it comes to their video. Mostly when it comes weddings and Quinces, my goal is to make sure when they watch it in 10 years they get to relive the moment like it was yesterday. I feel like what sets me apart is I take an understanding the client, asking questions and revealing what’s important for them that will be on the video. Im most proud of the progress and quality im able to provide for my clients, and im happy to say Im surrounded by a team who wants the same thing for their clients. Your peace of mind is what matters to us.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
There’s actually been a few times my videography business wasn’t in the best position. Of course no ones fault but being my own. Ive had to take a few others jobs to maintain life an get to the drawing boards on how to bring the business back to life. So don’t let anyone tell you having a regular job is not it, because sometimes that’s what’s going to get you to your end goal. Ive took a few small jobs doing lawn work, construction, security, Delivery driving, warehouse work, body work assistant, you get the idea.. Doing what you need to do is what standing on business is. Never lose sight of your main vision.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Financial Freedom. There’s plenty of stories of doing what you love and gaining that to continue to do what you love. And that’s what I want my reality to be. Thinking of ideas and how they can benefit the people who get to see it, whether it be something helpful or entertaining for them. It may sound like its for money, but its to have more time. To have endless time to free think and make more ideas possible is a beautiful life.
