We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Faustino Deblas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Faustino, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Everything came unexpectedly to be honest, I never had the intentions of wanting to be in front of the camera much less be an Actor. I started off just hanging around with a group of people who are actually musicians and they got invited to be on a local film set filming a documentary. They asked me to tag along And a wet and one of the directors asked me to be in the scene so I had no idea what I was doing. After we film all that it felt pretty cool and we started a little stuff here and there and in my mind is thinking of just wanting to do more with it. After that was over, a buddy of mine Jorge (RIP) told me about a casting call that was taking place in the city so me being nervous I took a chance & went for it. I auditioned and I completely bombed it lol but I found out weeks later I got selected for a Supporting role in the movie. Months later I’m on my very 1st movie set with an actual script in hand, extremely nervous I was but I prayed about it & got through it. Few months later after the production was wrapped I got to be in other projects as well & I slowly started building up my resume. The day I decided that I wanted to do this, to take this oath professionally was when I saw myself on the big screen for the 1st time for the 1st movie I ever did. I told myself that “This is what it’s all about, I want to do this forever “ I found my true calling & since then it’s been a hell of a ride with amazing opportunities years later.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m born and raised in Houston Texas, Long story short I got invited to a small set with a group of friends and the Director wanted me to be a part of a small seen and I did. I caught the “acting bug” & it’s been one hell of a ride. I believe what sets me apart from others is that I feel more determined, I feel proud of my work and the impact that I left on my scene whether it’s big or small I’m just thankful for the opportunity to be in front of the camera. I’m more proud of myself for never ever giving up, There’s been times where I had to take a couple breaks because Physically & Mentally it does get to you & you miss out on a lot of moments with Family. What I want potential clients followers and etc. to know is that I will never give up and if you put your trust in me I will give you 1000%, I will push & promote myself and what I represent to the fullest.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
This is a tough one (not physically) but mentally because I think about it so much. Before 2021 I was going extremely hard on everything that I was attached to including my job and I wasn’t resting well. So in 2021 hit I worked on a few projects just to slow down including take some days off from my job because mentally and physically I was completely drained. What are the last products that I did was actually a music video and what I meant by last is because late March I caught COVID-19 and I’m thinking it was going to sidelined me for two weeks. So I was like OK a two week break then I’m coming back but after I ended up being negative after three weeks my lungs began to feel weird like I wasn’t breathing properly so I ended up having respiratory issues. My mother convinced me to go to the clinic and I’m thankful that she drag me along lol we found out that I was slowing decreasing as in YOU NEED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL ASAP!!! Come to find out I had a lung infection and 50% of my lungs were infected, so instead of us driving to the hospital the ambulance ended up taking me to the hospital so it was just crucial just thinking about a lot of stuff while riding in the ambulance. I get to the hospital and they are already working on me, it was so bad that it really took me out so I had to learn how to walk again because when I start walking like a few seconds later I was already short of breath so it took time but I started learning how to walk again while breathing. So about a week later I get out of the hospital on the week of my birthday and I have tubes on my nose & I just miss being on set but I knew I had to get better first. I had to re-design myself mentally and physically, I had to rebuild myself to a better person and make sure that my body was completely somewhat back to normal, then I had to reclaim everything that I lost in those 3 months that I was recovering. Maybe about 2 1/2 months later three I went to my very first shit and yeah I guess it was still a little bit early for me but I couldn’t help it because I have miss being on set so much & was super resilient on making the dream happen even while I wasn’t at a 100%
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an actor is just to see people watch your work either on the TV screen or the big screen. It’s just cool to see people get so attached to the character to the story etc. I think the biggest reward was when I saw my scene on one of the biggest series ever “Better Call Saul” season finale Season 6 Episode 13 when I was actually in the same scene with Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) And people were just flipping out watching my scene, recording the scene and sending it to me or tagged me on my social media page and it was just one of the coolest things in the world, It felt rewarding when alot of ppl saw that episode with me fist bumping Bob Odenkirk.
