We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Fatima Morken. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Fatima below.
Hi Fatima. Thanks for joining us today. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
I had just graduated from my performing arts program and began posting singing videos in French. Within weeks, I was noticed by a French organic, clothing brand through the use of strategic French hashtags and quickly was offered a long-term modeling contract!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I got into modeling because a Sony A&R, for whom I sang, encouraged me to also model because I had features the modeling industry seeks.
I was ready for the camera before I even really knew! I had been running marathons, dancing Zumba, singing on stage, etc, years before finding out modeling would be a perfect fit for me.
I am the most proud of having the utmost discipline to stay fit & healthy in every arena of my life!
I not only want to continue growing in my modeling career, but also grow in my music and acting career as well!
I can’t wait to share more of my booked modeling jobs, continue recording the songs I have written and start showing up in more commercials, series and movies!
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
I never stop showing up! Virtually or in person! If I don’t make myself present and genuinely connect with others, I know I will have nothing to offer to the world which would be of significant benefit to it! I’m all about being ready to roll with one person alone or a large crowd! Making a small or big impact is what I’m about. I am here to hopefully make a change for the better and ultimately help others by my optimistic influence in their lives.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn how not to see others as a savior or hero.
I grew up, like many, in school being indoctrinated with this idea of “Who is your hero?” instead of being taught how to become my own, ultimate helper or problem-solver.
