Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Fataday Korngor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Fataday, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I think music is inherently filled with taking risks. By putting yourself out there and writing about personal experiences, you are creating the risk that some people won’t like the work you made. However, you have to let go of that fear in order to create something that’s 1000% you.
The greatest risk I took was releasing my second solo album Growing Pains, which came out last year. It was a risk through the reasons stated above. But I took it because I loved these songs and wanted them to be in the world. It ended up paying off for me personally, as I ended up gaining a lot more connections through the release of that album and it has been decently successful, garnering over 2,500 streams and having some songs get played on Y-Not Radio and WXPN.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into music when I was four years old. My parents always played Playhouse Disney and through the shows on the block, I became enamored with music. I learned how to play the guitar when I was six and from there ended up finding my musical inspirations. The Beatles, Billy Joel and Avril Lavigne were some of my biggest influences growing up.
What sets me apart from other bands/artists within my scene is that I write all my songs about my experiences and use them as a way to heal from them as well! I also bring a lot of energy to my live shows and make sure everyone’s having a good time.
One more thing I think people should know about me is that I love guitars and have five that are in my current “rotation”.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I’ve struggled a lot with my mental health and had moments of doubt over my future. In those moments, what kept me going was that I loved my life too much to give up, so I thought about all the good things I have and use that as a motivator to continue on.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Not every show is going to be a good one, no matter how much you want it to be. The reason why I had to unlearn that is one show we played in State College. Nothing against the town or Penn State as a college, but the crowd we played to that night wasn’t really receptive towards the music we were playing. I tried my best as frontman to get them into the set but they just weren’t there. To say that show was a bit demoralizing would be an understatement. We eventually moved past it and tried to make each show since better than the last. I think we’ve managed to achieve that much, and that makes me happy.
