We were lucky to catch up with FAT MOMMAS KITCHEN LLC recently and have shared our conversation below.
FAT MOMMAS KITCHEN LLC, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
How we got our first client is that I came across this site called bark. It’s a site for Business owners and people looking for business. After signing up, I started to get emails and text messages saying someone was looking for a caterer and the date and what it was for was in the email. I would then go on the Bark all that I downloaded and click on the clients name to get more information. In order for me to get the full information like phone number or email address or for me to even message them in regards to their catering needs I had to purchase credits. I purchased the credits and for this particular booking i had to use 10 credits. Once I used the credits to get the full information to contact the client, I messaged them and we went back and forth messaging for like 10mins before we set up a consultation to talk on the phone about their catering. Once I got on the phone with the client, they asked me about what kind of menu did I have in mind and what is the price for 75 people. Before I said the menu I asked what type of catering was this for and the client responded by saying it’s for a party. I also asked is there any allergies or dietary issues. The client responded by saying no. I then told the client a menu that got me hired. I said “Lemon pepper wings, Teriyaki wings, regular wings, Rotel, Meatballs, Pigs in a blanket, Chicken pasta salad, Shrimp kebabs, Mac-n-Cheese, Fruit/Veggie tray, Treats table, Banana Pudding, Deviled Eggs, and sodas like Coke, Sprite, and water. That’s how I got hired for my first catering job on bark.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
It all started when I was about 9 yrs old with my aunt. I would always be in the kitchen with her when she was cooking. I would always write down how she baked and the ingredients that she put in the food. When I got in high school I took up culinary and I was able to get in a cooking competition and I won first place out of hundreds of high schoolers. I would also cook for my friends and family on weekends as well. Cooking is Thearapy for me. I’m able to relax and I enjoy creating food.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Content is the key when trying to build your audience/following. You have to show what you’re doing. For example: if you are cooking breakfast or lunch or dinner find a way to get footage of you cooking. When posting your footage make sure to get the best parts of the video posted. Next is the wording that you’ll put behind your posting. Let everyone know what it is that you do and how they can reach you. Include numbers, email etc. Hashtags are great as well. You should be real creative with the hashtags. Also, never post thinking you’re going to go viral because you will be disappointed. It took me about a month to build my audience/followers up. Just be you and everything will be okay.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My business partner is my husband. We met in October of 2020. The great thing about my husband/business partner is that he was on the same page as me. We both wanted to have our own business. He bar b ques and I cook. It was too real to be true until we started “FAT MOMMAS KITCHEN LLC”. Our journey has just begun, and we gave a long way to go. To anyone wanting to start a business just know that there will tough days and easy days. Just stay motivated and prayed up and everything will be okay. Nothing is perfect and it’s okay to mess up because you’ll learn from it and over gone it. Our motto is “NO MEAL IS TOO BIG OR TOO SMALL FOR FAT MOMMAS KITCHEN LLC”.
