Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Faryn Cutler. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Faryn, thanks for joining us today. What’s been one of the most interesting investments you’ve made – and did you win or lose? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
2020 was the year I questioned what I really wanted my life to look like. The pandemic had me home full time for 12 weeks. After spending quality time with my family I asked myself if I really wanted to go back and continue my career in a salon environment.
After digging deeper into what I was truly feeling, I realized I wasn’t growing. I wanted a life where I could spend more time with my husband and two young children. I began to reach out to others in the beauty industry to weigh my options as a stylist.
After speaking with others in the industry who found themselves at the same crossroads in their career, I decided to go into business for myself, and that was the best decision I made.
It’s been a ride after nearly 2 years in! I went from being a commission stylist to a business owner and I’m still learning. After going out on my own, I learned that growth in this career is limitless.
I now have the freedom to make my own schedule and create a brand that benefits my current and future clients. The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way is that growth is only possible when you step outside your comfort zone in crazy faith, because that’s where your potential lies.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m an Independent hairstylist specializing in custom color to fit my client’s lifestyle. I’m also passionate about offering on-site Bridal hair services. What a joy it is to work with Bridal parties on such a beautiful occasion!
In my chair, my clients find I truly care about them, not just their hair. It’s important to me to build a personal relationship with them so I can better offer treatments specific to their hair’s unique needs as well as their busy lifestyle. My ultimate goal is to enhance my client’s look with a practical style that can last for months.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My journey as a salon owner hasn’t always been easy. There have been many challenges along the way personally and professionally.
Despite losing loved ones my first year, I still opened. Despite the fear of failing before I knew what the future held in the midst of a pandemic and rising inflation, I am still here.
I have never been one to give up even though I’ve wanted to! I’m grateful for the opportunity to grow in my faith to weather all of these challenges. God is the number one reason I am resilient today.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Looking back, I’ve always thrived on a consistent schedule and have always needed the stability that comes along with it in every area of my life. It’s what made me stick with jobs or placements where I’ve become too comfortable or complacent.
God did not call me to be complacent. His desire is for me to be wholeheartedly focused on Him. I’m learning to be patient when my schedule isn’t full in some seasons. I have to have complete faith that all of the work I put into my business will prosper because when I lose sight of those things and in Him, I fall into the never ending worries in my head.
