Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Faron Rashelle. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Faron thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Pursuing my music career as an R&B artist was me taking a risk. I grew up in church and a family that was and still is heavily involved in church. I also grew up going to gospel radio stations and events regularly due to my father being a radio disk jockey. Because of my upbringing, me venturing off into R&B felt scary but it felt right at the same time. Being an artist in general is putting yourself out there to be judged by the world but believing that it’s your purpose makes it all worth it. I was always shy and reserved growing up, so being an artist meant letting go of some of that. An extensive amount of time consuming things go into being an artist from writing, to recording, to photo shoots, music videos, finding your audience, creating merch, band rehearsal, traveling, performing and much more. It becomes a priority so you aren’t able to nourish other areas of your life as much as you’d like to. Putting yourself out there can be much, so you have to be brave enough to handle the good, the bad, and the ugly that comes with it.

Faron, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Faron Rashelle, an R&B artist from Little Rock, Arkansas. As far as creating my own music, it started from an Instagram post! I posted a short clip of me singing while strumming my way through on an acoustic guitar. My friend KG thought the video was dope and he suggested we link to create an original song. We did, and from there my first single “Unworthy” was created in 2015 and officially released in 2017. As far as live performances, my friend Trey told my brother GeMarr that he knew of someone looking for opening acts for a local show. Trey asked GeMarr if he had a band. GeMarr said yes and boom, The Kosher Sound was created. We were blessed to have a gig opportunity before we actually had a band so I felt that was a sign within itself. We had two rehearsals and then we performed our first show. It was so awesome, we got great feedback and being on stage just felt like home. I’m most proud of us for being willing to take the risk and jump out there versus being afraid and sitting on the gifts that God gave us.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is those moments where my music has successfully connected with someone. Putting music out is like exposing the world to your diary which is scary, but worth it. Music is the therapeutic for me so knowing that I can be there with someone through music to nourish their current mood, encourage them, or just vibe makes me feel like I have a purpose for existing. I literally recently ran into a guy that I haven’t seen since college and he had me in tears after expressing how he felt my music resonated with him. He said he listens to it often, shows it to people etc. He said don’t you dare quit! I needed to hear that, that moment was priceless.

How did you build your audience on social media?
As far as social media, my audience really grew after posting Instagram reels. I am no comedian at all, but I used to post videos to voiceovers that were funny but music related. People love to laugh so many shared my post and followed me because of it. This increased my chances of finding more members of my music audience because those people would look at my other post with original music and covers. I had no idea it would help as much as it did but taking that route helped me a lot.
