We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Farid Ghanbari a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Farid, thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I am extremely happy about what I do. Not only I love being an artist as my profession but I also think art has helped me a lot to see the world from a wider lens and touch some details that usually other people don’t. Even when it comes to a simple hike with friends you can usually see the difference between an artist with others in the way they explore the nature, details, textures, colors and perspectives.
Of course artists have their own obstacles and sometimes it can be challenging. But I think even the challenges are fun since you need to be creative in order to overcome them.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I born in Shiraz. A beautiful city of my country Iran. I studies architecture in my city, and after getting the bachelor degree I worked in that industry for few years but my first experience on 3D architectural visualization made me think about CGI and animation cause I felt in love with that immediately. So, I started learning by online tutorials, software documentation, and experiencing.
I was able to get some commercial projects back in my country and work with some of the local brands.
After I moved to the US, I had the chance to work with big brands like Nike, Adidas, Twitter, Crocs, Levies, and so on.
I always wanted to have my own business but working with 3FX, and The Mill was one of my best experiences and I leant a lot from the talented teams in these companies.
My LLC is called Renderburger, and I always want to grow up my baby.
Working with other artists in a team is always one my my missions and I am expanding my connection to make my dream team.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
NFT’s are great way to make a community between artists together and artists to entrepreneurs. That is the best part of NFT that I really like. I found so many valuable connections via NFT. Also it helps artist to sell their art easier.
But at the same time I think it still has a long way ahead. One of the things that I am not a fan of is the fact that you have to struggle to draw the collector attention to yourself which is not good. Also I have seen that so many artist complain about some simple JPGs being sold for million dollars while their work is not being seen.
But I’m sure like so many other movements’ NFTs need its own time to become a healthy system that all the artist and collectors can have benefit from.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I don’t remember if I ever tried to make an art to gain followers or have more audience. If I create a new art is just because I love to do and it gives me a great feeling. But I noticed every time I make something and post it online it, new group of people follow my work. So I think as long as you do what you love eventually you will find your true audiences.
But plus that I believe you need to do the right marketing as well to create your own community.
Like creating relevant contents on your social media. Keep posting frequently. Following other artists that they work in the same industry. Giving useful information and data to your audience via your website and online platforms.
