We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Fan Wu. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Fan below.
Fan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Nine years ago, I started a journey to study in the United States driven by my passion for hand-drawing. It was during this time abroad that I first encountered tattoos since they were not as popular in China where I am originally from. This sparked my curiosity immensely. After getting my very first tattoo experience during my student life, an intense fascination developed within me as tattoos are essentially artistry manifested on human skin – a perfect blend of drawing techniques and body modification practices. Subsequently, self-teaching became paramount as I practiced extensively by tattooing myself; gradually realizing that tattoos held an immense significance in my life’s purpose.
After graduation, fueled by unwavering determination and dedication towards this craft that had captured both my heart and soul, I made a resolute decision to pursue tattooing as a lifelong career path while committing myself wholeheartedly to its mastery.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a tattoo artist. My specialty is doing anime works, and fine line style. When I encounter anime music that deeply resonates with me or come across lyrics that profoundly touch my emotions, I am instantaneously filled with inspiration. The interesting stories and characters depicted in animation have the power to move and motivate me, igniting within me a desire to create. Consequently, I aspire to translate my innermost thoughts onto paper and transform them as tattoos, allowing the public to witness my artistic expression while hoping for readers to also find resonance.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I take immense pride in the fact that each time a customer expresses satisfaction with my work, their contentment resonates deeply within me, evoking a profound sense of gratitude and appreciation. The unwavering support and recognition from my clients have been instrumental in enabling me to consistently deliver exceptional results, thereby fostering continuous growth and improvement in my craft.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The demand for tattoos has significantly declined since the outbreak of the epidemic. Previously, my career goal and ultimate aspiration were to be able to do guest works and trips to many other countries and cities, to see different kinds of artists and their works, we can communicate and I can learn from other great artists. After the outbreak, a significant number of individuals are now financially constrained and unable to allocate funds towards tattoos. Initially, it was challenging for me to come to terms with the potential hindrance of my aspirations; however, I have now embraced this reality and recognize that since I cannot alter the economic circumstances, I must focus on what lies within my control – maintaining a positive mindset. Similar to when I embarked upon my professional journey, I dedicate most of my time to drawing, reading, and studying as means to find solace and relaxation. Consequently, my current foremost objective is cultivating an enduring state of tranquility and continuous learning so as not to be swayed by external factors but rather concentrate on the task at hand.
