We recently connected with FAMA Entertainment and have shared our conversation below.
FAMA, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
Starting the Movement we’ve created just this year, we had no working capital. We just started hosting our own events and reinvested all profits over and over again to then spend our profits on smaller investments such as biodegradable post cards, banners, etc. for marketing. Applying for business loans today, especially after the pandemic is almost impossible. After months of phone calls and research for grants or loans for Women owned businesses, it almost feels as though our chances of getting the first $10k we need in order to follow our business plans, is slim to none. Now ‘days in order for anyone to qualify for a business line of credit, a grant, or especially a business loan, you need to have been in business for 2-3 years at the least. I’d say this is the hardest part of starting a new business today.
Our business plan is set to the dime- where our investments will go toward and how it would reciprocate as profit.
If you’re looking to sponsor or invest with us, please feel free to reach out via email!
FAMA, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
FAMA Entertainment is a new wave of projects based in Orlando deigned to highlight the talented femme, LGBTQ, and ethnic artists in the Electronic Dance Music Industry. It’s hard enough to start up on your own as an independent artist reaching for recognition and a good rep in our world. Although Orlando is a small city, there are multiple EDM venues, and the rest of the bars have EDM nights as well, and we aren’t talking about the underground raves either. Were talking 5-10 EDM events crammed in one weekend like a never ending rave because everything is so close So, unfortunately, there is a lot of competition between other EDM collectives like us and lots of competition between our artists.
FAMA is here to create and grow together as a community with everyone who is here for the MUSIC. We genuinely don’t host events that could potentially cause conflict with other collectives but we do make a statement.
EVERYONE deserves a chance. We all started from somewhere. All of us. Decisions on who plays where and when should always be based on talent and the amount of work that an artist puts toward their music production and/or sets. These decisions should not be based on friendship or personal preference over others either. But its been happening for years all over the Nation. This is what we call our version of cultural distortion. Its real and its here.
I’d say what sets us a part from others is our love for the culture of Electronic Dance Music, and respect for where it all came from. Along with our open mind set on different genres, we don’t ever stick to just one or two genres. FAMA is here to take you out of your comfort zone and introduce you to new sounds you never knew you’d boogie to. From authentic House Music to Liquid Drum and Bass, Techno to Breaks, Afro beats to UK Garage, etc. We are here to take you on a journey through musical exploration.
A huge part of this culture also consists of local artists, vendors, photographers, and production. We couldn’t grow without them and we make sure to spotlight the entirety of the Industry who helps make it all happen.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Our team consists of 20+ Djs/ producers, 15+ vendors & artists, 3 amazing photographers, a highly experienced production team, and promotion team. As described before, we couldn’t do this without them. And I make sure they know it. The tasks assigned are only made to help them as individual business owners themselves. Networking in person and virtually, sending information by deadlines, and executing their part with passion while working with us is all we ask for. And we ask, we don’t threaten, or bully anyone into doing their part.
If you’re a Dj, no matter which route you go, as an independent artist or contracted artist, you absolutely have to promote yourself. This consists of sharing flyers and showing face to support collectives other artists,
As a vendor/ artist, if you want clients to visit your boutique you will market your brand and events online and in person. Create business cards and hand them out at our events.
As a photographer you will make sure to execute your assignments by deadlines to keep your clients happy. You will also promote yourself and your brand for future opportunities.
Being a part of the production team knowing the show cant go on without you, you come prepared and communicate with your lead. Network for more opportunities in higher scale venues.
Each of these Individuals promote our events along with our promotion team. Until we generate enough income to pay everyone for their promotion work, we honor every team member with a promise. They will never be left out. They will always have access to our events for free. No matter the volume of the headlining act, no one will be treated as if they do not play an important role in our family.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Consistency, passion, and patience could blossom anything into something beautiful that will last forever.
