My journey into the world of photography began during an extraordinary time, the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many, I found myself confronted with a surreal reality, a daily life reduced to long walks in nature. These moments, despite their isolation, revealed a unique and profound beauty. Life had come to a halt, and in the silence of that suspended time, I began to capture fragments of existence—moments of light, shadows, and colors that narrated the stories of humanity in waiting.

Photography became my language, a means to express emotions that I found difficult to articulate. Through the lens, I began to explore not only the beauty of the natural world around me but also the deeper nuances of human experience. As time passed, my interest evolved towards surrealism. I started to create abstract visions, intertwining my passion for nature with my artistic aspirations. Each shot became a journey into the impossible, an attempt to give shape to dreams and fears, to love and the fragility of life.

Emotions, fantasy, and the psychology of the human experience have been fundamental threads in my creative path. I sought to merge these elements, creating works that challenge reality and invite the viewer to reflect. At times, obstacles have been numerous: artistic uncertainties, doubts about my path, and the difficulty of conveying what I held within. Yet, each challenge contributed to shaping my style, rendering it authentic and personal.

Reflecting on this journey, I believe that curiosity and the ability to observe have been the most essential skills. The willingness to explore without limits, to take risks, and to embrace uncertainty has allowed me to grow. If I could go back, I would strive to accept these difficulties as an integral part of my artistic development, enabling myself to explore more and worry less. Thus, my camera has transformed not only into a tool of capture but also into a window into infinite worlds, landscapes of emotions, and stories waiting to be told.

My name is Sophia, but in the art world, I am known as Falyriae. I am a conceptual photographer, a musician and a freelance artist specializing in fine art. I am currently attending the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania, where I study New Technologies of Art. This journey allows me to explore various dimensions of contemporary art, ranging from photography and videography to 3D and 2D, programming, and sound design. It’s like diving into a universe rich with creative possibilities.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

Building an audience on social media is an exciting and rewarding journey. Before you start, it’s essential to have clarity on what you want to share with the world. Ask yourself what your mission is: what values and content do you wish to convey? Identifying your core message will help you connect with the right people.

Once you have defined who you are and what you want to offer, the next step is to express yourself authentically. Don’t be afraid to show your unique voice and personality. When you present yourself authentically, you will naturally attract those who resonate with your vision.

Remember, authentic connection is key. Engage with your community, respond to comments, and listen to your followers. This will not only help you build meaningful relationships but also gain a better understanding of what your audience wants.

My experience has been marked by various difficulties, with one of the most significant challenges being my initial inability to realize my vision and turn it into something concrete, often due to financial constraints. To overcome this obstacle, I decided to make the most of the resources at my disposal and what surrounds me, constantly pushing my vision beyond the limits imposed by economic needs. I learned that it is not necessary to invest large sums to create something meaningful; although working with limited resources requires more effort, the gratification that comes from it is indescribable.

Moreover, I had to face the challenge of balancing various aspects of my life, such as studies, creative projects, errands, and deadlines. Being simultaneously a photographer, model, musician, illustrator, and composer can be complex, but it remains a profoundly rewarding experience. As long as I have life and continue to nurture my passion, I can only follow my vision and cultivate the love for everything I carry within me. Resilience has been fundamental on this journey, allowing me to face challenges with determination and to turn every obstacle into an opportunity for growth.
