We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Falyn Marie. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Falyn below.
Alright, Falyn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
The best thing Headwearbyfal does to show our customers that we appreciate them is by allowing them to be apart of the manufacturing process. They help pick out what products they would like to be added to our collections, and they also choose the colorways of what we will be making. They get to decide our prices for our products. Everything we do is based on our customers decisions.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Headwearbyfal was founded in 2018. We provide fashionable headwear that adults, children and families can wear for any occasion. From our double layered satin lined bonnets, durags, headbands, headwraps, our lacebands, sleep mask, scrunchies and silk pillowcases, our products are to help protect, grow and nourish your skin.
The thing I am most proud of is that in September it will be our 7 year anniversary of being in business. Within 7 years I have learned a lot of how to go from an idea to generating revenue.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A time where I had to take time off from my business is when I was in college. School started off really good then Covid happened so fast. My second semester of college & everything just changed within a blink of an eye. Mentally I was not ready for what was going to happen. I didn’t like online school nor did I have the attention span for it. I had to mentally prepare myself for it so that meant focusing less on my business & more on school. No matter what went on I knew I couldn’t fail school like that was not an option for me. I had to step away from getting new inventory and from doing popup shops. I had to close my website down for a few months because I was doing everything myself. I didn’t take a normal 3 or 4 classes per semester I was doing about 5 and 6 while also taking summer classes each summer. But once I was near the end of school I was able to pick up my business. I dropped a big selection of headwear, I was able to add more products & redo some products I already had out. This was the best decision I ever made now that I graduated college Headwearbyfal will have more things to come moving forward.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele is just talking to any & everybody. I always go to networking events with my headwear. I carry business cards on me 24/7 and also keep inventory on me, you NEVER know who is willing to buy something on the spot. If I see somebody with something on that I sell I always stop them & tell them about my business. This was not easy at first I had social anxiety but doing this more & more I gained the confidence that everybody should know about Headwearbyfal. Now people come up to me & tell me about my own business and how they have already shopped and supported my business.
