We were lucky to catch up with Falisha McGee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Falisha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned in school and why that lesson is important to you?
I would like to share a story from my college years that taught me a valuable lesson about having greater faith in oneself than in any challenge or circumstance.
Prior to my freshman year at Bradley University, my academic journey was marked by consistently strong grades and a genuine passion for learning. Now, let’s transition to my freshman year at Bradley University. I vividly recall the excitement of moving into my dorm, feeling like I was living a dream. Everything seemed perfect… until it all took an unexpected turn!
As I attended more and more classes, a sense of overwhelming pressure crept in, leading to a rapid decline in my grades. I found myself wondering, what was happening?
One evening, while nestled in my bed, tears welled up in my eyes, and a haunting question echoed in my mind: “What’s my next step?” In that pivotal moment, I rose from my bed, gazed into the mirror, and whispered to my reflection, “You possess all the tools for success. This is not the conclusion of your journey. Grant yourself some grace and let’s conquer this challenge.”
That next morning, I was ready and armed. I scheduled one-on-one meetings with each of my professors and engaged in candid discussions about my academic struggles and the underlying challenges. Their support proved invaluable as they recommended exceptional tutors to assist me. During that same week, recognizing the magnitude of changes I was undergoing, I sought guidance from a school counselor. This counselor equipped me with various tools and techniques to navigate this transition successfully. Lastly, I granted myself the space and patience needed to cope with this huge change.
Even to this day, I draw valuable insights from my experience during my first semester at Bradley. In moments where the road is harder to travel, I remember that I am bigger than my situation. I allocate time to pause, reflect, strategize, and remain steadfast in my pursuit. I wholeheartedly encourage anyone facing challenges, whether personal or professional, to keep going. Do not waver in your pursuit of your goals and dreams. Trust that you are enough and possess all the resources required for your ultimate success story.

Falisha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I kicked off my career journey in the IT world, working as a Business Systems Analyst. Over the years, I progressed through my career and gradually transitioned into IT project management. During that time, I began coaching, teaching, and mentoring beyond my professional commitments. At that point, I made the heartfelt decision to align my passion with my purpose and establish Level Up Training Center.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe that maintaining a strong sense of integrity, delivering exceptional value, and treating individuals with respect has been instrumental in shaping my reputation within my market.

Any advice for managing a team?
Certainly! Here are my top 4 key recommendations to consider for effective team management.
- Setting the Standard: Lead by setting the standard you expect from your team. Exhibit the work ethic, attitude, and behavior you anticipate from your team members, as your actions establish the team’s tone.
- Promote Transparent Dialogue: Cultivate an atmosphere where team members find it easy to express their ideas, voice concerns, and provide feedback. Keep your team regularly informed about the company’s objectives, advancements, and any modifications.
- Establish Explicit Standards: Make certain that each team member comprehends their role, duties, and the objectives they are striving to achieve. This helps keep frustration and confusion to a minimum.
- Provide Opportunities for Growth and Knowledge Sharing: Encourage professional development and offer opportunities for team members to enhance their skills and advance their careers within and outside the organization. This consideration shown for your team will go a long way.
