We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Faith Soulliere. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Faith below.
Faith, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I started doing florals when working for a fine dining experience that needed help with the tablescapes. They were a small business as well so we were all learning as we went. I’ve always admired florals and have an eye for design so I kinda just put things on the table hoping it looked ok and as I went on arranging the florals became more fun to me and each stem was placed more intentionally than the ones before. I quickly started learning the importance of the vessel you put the flowers in and how to keep them in place using chicken wire or green foam. While on my journey of figuring out how to make my florals more efficient and of course more beautiful, I took a workshop with a florist I admired. After that class I found my style and learned the tools to bring it to life. Once florals became a creative outlet in my life I began my floral company and now provide florals for all kinds of events.
Faith, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi! I am Faith, Founder of Con Flores Studio and floral designer. I have the privilege of living in Maui and am surrounded by lush, exotic floral varieties, leaving me endlessly inspired. To me florals are so important because they are always found on life’s most important days, whether it’s a wedding, birthday, anniversary, etc. My goal is to enhance the natural beauty life has to offer and cultivate beauty everywhere, for everyone. My style reflects the environment I am surrounded by combined with my personal style, I tend to call it modern tropical. Each of the bouquets and floral arrangements I create are art pieces that I hope resonate with people and catch the eye of people who aren’t usually flower lovers.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part about being a creative is being able to financially support myself through my creative outlet. Making floral arrangements is something I would do if I was being paid or not, it is like the feeling of painting or baking. Creating something beautiful that indulges your senses is such a satisfying process and privilege.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
It is my hope that each of my floral arrangements emote a sense of sonder, whether a bouquet in the hand of a bride or an arrangement on the counter of a couple for their anniversary, these arrangements accompany special days and moments. Flowers are a source of ephemeral beauty, they have to be savored because they are fleeting. They bring joy and brighten up a space. When they are received people feel special and loved. I am honored to be able to provide that for people.
