We were lucky to catch up with Faith Rodriguez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Faith, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
Honestly, I believe in the right timing. Truth be told, a younger me would have wished that I could’ve started modeling sooner than I did. At 16, I was constantly pushing to begin going to photoshoots and taking modeling opportunities, but at that time, my parents didn’t want me to take that path. They wanted me to focus on school. To just keep pushing and complete my degree, but I was adamant. Although I didn’t get to start modeling as soon as I had hoped, I do believe in right timing, because since everything has worked out smoothly. Waiting an extra two years or so, I was able dip my toes in the creative world and still finish my college degree. Thus giving me the jumpstart I needed to focus solely on my creative career, while still having the tools necessary to finance it all on my own.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those that don’t know, my name is Faith Rodriguez, also known as BB.Faith. I am a Model, Creative Director, and Fashion Stylist. After doing a billboard campaign for my mom’s job, as a child, Modeling has been a passion of mine, but it was always kept at arms length. When making major life decisions, like my career path, or where I wanted to go to college fashion was always at the forefront of my choices. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the route I ended up taking. My parents were not fond of me, making fashion, my ultimate career choice, as it seemed to be something that wouldn’t stick. it was always viewed as if this career wouldn’t get me far in life, or I wouldn’t make enough money. So because of that, I ended up taking a more standardized route and got my college degree in Business Marketing and management. However, it wasn’t a waste, as I use my college degree to market myself as my own Brand. I was determined to bring fashion back into my life and so I did. After Covid, becoming a creative became almost trendy, and a lot of new opportunities for such has opened up. Now, after entering the modeling world only three years ago, I have achieved major accomplishments like billboard campaigns, walking multiple runway shows, and even working with major brands like Sephora, Snipes, Daniels Leather, and Danessa Myricks beauty to name a few. Being in this heavily saturated industry isnt an easy task, especially with being a curvy girl who doesn’t always fit the model requirements. But time and time again, I push. Discipline. Drive. & Durability is what I believe is needed in order to commit yourself to a creative career. The work is not going to make itself. The jobs aren’t going ti immediately just come to you. You have to push. You have to be consistent. You really have to want it. Being able to stretch in all directions, I dabbled in multiple aspects of the craft. This allowed me to expand my knowledge of what goes into fashion and modeling productions, as well as the ability to put together my own curated projects. Creative Direction, Production and Styling are just a couple ways I decided to elevate my creative resume. My works are a personal representation of my creative eye and my ability to drive forth creative visions. Honestly, out of everything, I think I am the most proud of my own discipline and drive. I know for a fact I get it straight from my mother. Though things can seem difficult and overwhelming at times, she always stands firm. She pushes to stay working hard and is committed to everything she does. Without her influence, I wouldn’t be able to push myself, even on the harder days, and I definitely wouldn’t have gotten this far pursuing a career that I love. Even with having to wait the extra couple of years I did to start. Overall, I am so proud of where I am now and how far I have come. I hope to continue to inspire those around me and bring forth new inspiration and passionate works of art.
How did you build your audience on social media?
For those of you looking to build your social media or even start your creative career, the advice I would give to you is to just do what you love and, of course, record it. In the current advanced technological world we live in, content can be found anywhere. As long as you’re doing what you love to do, you should be confident in what you create. You never know who is watching, and you just might inspire the eyes of those who see. not only will this jumpstart your creative career, but this will also build your social media presence. You’ll be able to put out the work you love, and the people who love your work will automatically find you.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is seeing the final product. Not only do you get to see your vision come to life, but you also get to see how people react to it. While, in some cases, this may not be the best way to look at things – Nine times out of ten if you are confident about your work, people will see that confidence and be inspired by it. It feels so rewarding to be able to take something from a simple thought, to work of art. And to be able to inspire people to bring out their own creative visions, makes it all seem worth it.
