We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Faith Constantine a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Faith, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
When I sat down to come up with my business name, I knew I wanted to put my first name on my business as well as some thing that was short and catchy. I really like names that have alliteration, so I went through names like ‘Flicks by Faith C’ and ‘Faith’s Photos’. After searching up photography terminology, I came to the name Faith’s Flicks (flicks being a synonym for pictures; i.e. getting flicked up). I also liked that both words started with the letter F, had an ‘i’ in the middle, ended with ‘s’, and had the same amount of letters. It looked and sounded very pleasing to me.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Faith Constantine and I am the owner of Faith’s Flicks LLC, which is a photography business. I offer everything from birthday shoots to graduation pictures. I’ve just started taking on sports and event photography clients, which can be found @capturedwithfaith.
I believe what sets me apart from other photographers is the fact that I don’t try to stay in a box. I capture what I find beauty in, whether that be a basketball game or a photo series that I’m working on.
Right now I am most proud of the ways I’ve grown, especially in such a short amount of time. From the way I capture photos; the locations, angles, and equipment I use. To the way that I edit photos; color grading, lighting, adjustments, and other post processing things. Ask anyone who has been a part of my journey and they will testify that you can see the growth!
There are two slogans that I have and I believe they encompass what I want potential clients to know about me. The first being, “I enhance beauty not fake it.” I take it upon myself to edit photos in a way that translates what we see with our eyes digitally. For example; cameras, especially ones with a really good lens, can be unforgiving in terms of make up. When we look in the mirror, we might see a flawless face and then once the lights are on and the camera has captured, the make up might seem a little less flawless. So when I edit, I edit with the intention of bringing back what we see with our eyes, not adding things that aren’t there. I don’t make a habit of altering people’s faces or bodies in a way that might bring about a false sense of reality or insecurities. As this has personally happened to me before.
My second slogan is “I can make a model out of anybody.” I’m very proud of this one. There are people who don’t get in front of a camera because they feel as though they aren’t models, but just because you’re not a model doesn’t mean that you can’t take good photos and feel confident just like a top model.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Only shoot when someone has booked you. This advice was given by people who weren’t photographers. I thought that the only time I should take pictures was when I was getting booked. This caused me to get really down with my photography career because there were times when people weren’t booking me and I wouldn’t pick up my camera. In those moments I had to learn to shoot for fun, collaborate with other photographers, or make projects and photo series of my own that I was excited to capture. It grew my love for photography.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Currently, I don’t even have 1.5 K followers on Instagram so I am definitely still in the process of growing my social media audience. Regardless, I have achieved the amount of followers that I have thus far through posting consistently, using hashtags, asking people to share my content, and expanding my clientele. My biggest advice would be to shoot with as many people as possible. When you shoot with that one person, it opens a door for exposure to all of the people who know them/follow them and from there you’re bound to attract some people’s attention.
