We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Faith Bright. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Faith below.
Faith, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I started learning how to do makeup in my teenage years. Though I liked doing my own beauty makeup to go to school or hang out with friends, there was a makeup I had always wanted to learn how to do. Special Effects Makeup. I had always been a huge fan of the television show Face Off and loved the creatures they created using makeup. One day in September 2018 I asked my dad if we could go to Spirit Halloween so I could get some makeup to try creating a special effects makeup look. He’s said yes and a few hours later I was sitting in the kitchen watching a YouTube video while trying to make something somewhat realistic. I’ve always loved Halloween and anything Horror related. So when I texted someone a picture of what I had created and got the response of “OMG WHAT DID YOU DO ARE YOU OK” you could say I was proud of my first attempt. From there I continued to practice special effects makeup on myself, sister, friends, and basically anyone that would let me. Eventually after I graduated from college with an associates in business management I decided to go to makeup school. I attended the L Makeup Institute in Southlake, Texas. I was nervous but determined when I started classes, I had to start with beauty makeup and hair before I could go on to the body painting and special effects classes. I was definitely a little discouraged when it came to those classes and I wasn’t confident in my skill in those areas of my artistry. But a few months later I passed the classes and was even named “best in class” in my hair styling class. I gained confidence and began to book photoshoots while I was still in school. I graduated in February of 2022 as best in class for Hair Styling, Body Painting, and Special Effects as well as being named valedictorian of my class! I’m very grateful for everyone who has helped me and taught me on my makeup journey. Today I’m still booking photoshoots and loving this career!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I would have to say the most rewarding part about being a makeup artist is seeing my clients face light up when I hand them the mirror to see themselves. I love seeing their confidence grow.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I think it’s important to remember we are a small business too! You can even support us in such small ways like sharing a social media post or even just liking and commenting. You can even recommend us to people you know!
