Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Fai Chan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Fai, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
Ideas come and go… not every idea yields profitable results. To ground the idea with practicability and be realistic, I do pop up in farmer’s market or vendor events to study the market and consumer behavior. It is the insights that give further development…. and to add precision to predicting a future outcome. I like to go shopping for observing how others behave and learning from others to improve my competency. Reading and discussing with others are also helpful in generating and refining ideas to executing the plans.
Before I put it into the market, I like to conduct a focus group discussion for refining ideas or execution plan. Timely reviews will be an agenda in the meeting of focus group. It takes a longer time but it makes the outcomes more satisfactory. Since I do product development too, I need focus group to make sure things go well, safe yet effective.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I immigrated to US because of marriage, and I have been a homemaker for about 10 years before I got a working title. Although I do not need to work to make a living, being idled in the workforce was not good to emotional health… I did. charities during that time. While everyone somehow like to evade paying tax, I can say for sure, paying taxes make me feel good, and increases my sense of belonging to where I am living. Expanding my horizons through work set me free from microscopic thinking that releases me from stress and learn from my networks in healing life issues.
I do clinical aromatherapy, I promote self care and have a clinic providing treatment services, I have publications on scientific / medical research journals, been speaking at traditional/non traditional convention… ever since my 3rd publications on Hypertension, I got loads of invitations to publish articles. Although I wrote from the perspective of clinical aromatherapy, conventional medicine Pharma do cite my works in their research and application of authority approval, with the recent one on Alzheimer’s. That said my work is very mainstream too… and some of them got mentioned in government Gazette too.
People just think that aromatherapy is as easy as ABC, but I can tell it is not. And the present education still contains many teachings that are actually needed to be reviewed. Well I can only say that when in doubt, talk to your medical doctors especially if you are taking medication. Things are very complicated from distillation to applying right… people nowadays take an integrative approaches in healing that makes things super sophisticated. Traditional one way only takes no place and can be harmful….
I think these are never thought of … what you think is helping you can haunt you back later to make things even worse…
My specialties are in diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, neurological degenerative issues and high blood pressure…. I equipped myself with different modalities so that I know what to do or not…
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I have a marketing degree… but I think to survive in this business world, you need to have sound knowledge on the subject “Economics”… this gives you a macro views that shape the factors affecting the economy and your decision making process.
Other than that, you can read some business books on marketing or management.
Reading books on organization behaviors , institutional changes and the impacts keep you ahead of your competitors.
The modern history of China from Qing dynasty onwards is a must read… who can forgo the China’s market?
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
My work has a general applicability that touches each people’s life…. That said I need to be versatile to gain wide popularity….
I involve in different healing modalities, fashions from thrifty to luxuries (designer brands), social media engagement in wide topics and so on
Most importantly, I widen the selection of items I am carrying as America is a country of choices. I bring in special items to promote here that is novel and pioneering….
So far, these work very well.
