Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Fabien Gravillon . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Fabien, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
From the beginning of my career, about 24 years ago, I knew right away that I wanted to pursue a professional artistic career. I found talent agencies at the age of 18, then I had my first castings and I worked straight away.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born in France near Paris. Initially an athlete, I practiced track and field at a high level in the youth categories where I obtained titles and national records in the triple jump. Today, I continue that sport and I placed 9th at the last world masters indoor championships in Poland. At the age of 18, I decided to take theater classes in Paris because I always dreamed of working in the entertainment industry. then,I met an agent who allowed me to do my first castings. I did commercials and small roles in films. Shortly after, I discovered the world of voice-overs and dubbing this which allowed me to lend my voice for the French versions of cult series like Law & Order, NCIS, The Young & The Restless, Criminal Mind and more recently Star Trek Discovery, Equalizer, 911 etc… Alongside voice dubbing, my career in film developed and I obtained a recurring role in the number 1 French soap opera “Plus belle la vie” as well as in the prime time TV series “Les bleus: premiers pas in the police” with Élodie Yung (The Cleaning Lady). I always dreamed of pursuing my artistic career in Hollywood so then I obtained a visa to work in the entertainment industry in the USA and I flew to Los Angeles. As soon as I arrived, I lent my voice in English to footballer Corentin Tolisso for the documentary Fox Phenoms which I recorded at the Fox studios in Century City. Then, I dubbed the French version of the cartoon Splash and Bubbles which was produced by the Jim Hendson company and broadcasted on Netflix. I was lucky enough to subsequently obtain one of the main roles in the film “Destiny of a Child” which I shot in Boston and which is still available for streaming on prime video. I collaborated with Mickey Madden, the bassist of the group Maroon 5, in the music video for his new duet “Collapsing Scenery” as well as in the music video for international DJ Martin Garrix featuring Macklemore and Patrick Stump from Fall out boy directed by Colin Tilley (Grammy nominee) I’m also a singer and I just released an urban pop single “Je t’attends” accompanied by my first music video which I shot in Hollywood and the Los Angeles valley.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Society should start by understanding artists better. Society sees the artist as entertainment but does not always realize how hard or even dangerous it is. Unfortunately, many artists suffer from more or less serious depression. Society should therefore put in place psychological support to help and encourage artists.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Public recognition. Without the audience, there is no artist. What a pleasure to be stopped in the street and recognized What a pleasure to send autographed photos to fans !
