We were lucky to catch up with Fabi Richards recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Fabi, thanks for joining us today. One of the toughest things about entrepreneurship is that there is almost always unexpected problems that come up – problems that you often can’t read about in advance, can’t prepare for, etc. Have you had such and experience and if so, can you tell us the story of one of those unexpected problems you’ve encountered?
Our business began as a school project. Our goal was to use the business to teach our kids life and business skills. Our vision was to have a place where people could come and work on a project/craft and have all the supplies on hand. Craft home parties was our first goal, and we hosted our first one at our home right before Christmas 2019. It was a huge success!
Only a few months after we started our business (October 2019), we had to deal with the shutdown, this forced us to to rethink and start strategizing on the best way to move forward. For our business, it was sewing masks and 3D printing “ear savers” for the masks. Even though we were giving away most of the items we were making, we were blessed and still made a profit. I call it God Math! This forced us to rethink the idea of having a “brink and mortar” place.
A few months later, we sold our house and moved in with my parents in September of 2020. There was NO ROOM to run the business and grow. It was tough, but we regrouped, and began to strategize again! Somehow, someway, we managed! Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
Finally, 2 and a half years later, we found a house, but it needed to be remodeled and updated. We also had my son’s wedding that year. Again, we had to rethink our ways, but we did it. Now we stary pretty busy making personalized items from apparel to home decor and so much more.

Fabi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
What started as a school project to learn skills such as entrepreneurship, accounting, customer service, marketing, as well as crafting skills, quickly evolved into more! Every time we say a need, we tried to meet that need. Because we concentrate on quality personalized items, we strive to make everything special for our customers. Even if we have never made something before, I will rarely say we can’t do it. Instead, we will say that we will try. We pride ourselves in doing all we can within our power to make our customers happy and for the item or items we are making to be the best in both quality and special meaning. Our latest addition was a laser engraver/cutter. This has allowed us to make so many more beautiful and unique gifts for our customers.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
We have repeat customers because we strive to give customers the best quality product for a reasonable price.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Always follow up and make sure your customer is happy. If not, do everything within reason to make it right.
