We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ezekiel M. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ezekiel below.
Ezekiel, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My most recent project is by far the meaningful to me because it’s my first full length album. It’s a culmination of my recent experiences artistic growth. I’m extremely glad to share it with the world. The album itself, titled “Candles” is naturally, an intimate project, my intent was indeed to make something meaningful; music that people can listen to and they get goosebumps. To me that’s what being an artist truly about. Making people feel, connecting with others. It’s giving a voice to those whose words can’t quite express what they feel. To embrace vulnerability.

Ezekiel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always been a creative person since I can remember. Drawing, painting, writing poetry, etc. It wasn’t until high school and college that I found a passion for music. Initially, I wanted to learn to mix my own records. People I knew eventually would ask me to record and mix their records for them, I never advertised my mixing services, I would ways get clients by word of mouth, I wasn’t necessarily trying to start a business at first, it just happened. When I got to college I learned to play the keys and had voice lessons as well. My music production and artistic journey began from there. Production was a skill I never expected to pick up but I did, and then and I grew to enjoy. I love taking part in every aspect of the creative process, from songwriting, composing, and mixing.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One thing I had to unlearn is to not play small to make others comfortable, it does nothing to benefit you. Know your worth, know who you are. Inspire others to feel comfortable to be themselves.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is knowing that although we all have very different experiences, people can still relate. It’s knowing that your work made someone feel something or perhaps caused a positive shifted in perspective.
