We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ewelina Aiossa a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ewelina, appreciate you joining us today. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
The beauty industry is experiencing a remarkable transformation, driven by technological innovation and a holistic approach to personal care. Take Sarah’s story, for instance – a 28-year-old professional who discovered AI-powered skincare that analyzes her unique genetic makeup and skin characteristics to create a completely personalized beauty regimen. This breakthrough represents more than just a product; it’s a revolution in how we understand and treat individual skin needs.
The opportunities presented by AI-driven personalization are profound. Brands can now create incredibly precise formulations that address specific skin concerns with unprecedented accuracy. Customers like Sarah experience enhanced product efficacy and a sense of being truly understood by their skincare solutions. However, this technological marvel isn’t without potential drawbacks. The collection of personal data raises significant privacy concerns, and there’s a legitimate question about whether technology might eventually replace the nuanced understanding of human skincare experts.
Simultaneously, the beauty industry is witnessing another fascinating trend: the convergence of beauty and wellness. No longer are cosmetics simply about surface-level appearance; they’re becoming holistic tools for overall well-being. Mark’s experience exemplifies this shift – a professional who previously ignored skincare now embraces products that promise not just aesthetic improvements, but stress reduction and comprehensive health benefits.
This wellness-oriented approach opens exciting possibilities for cross-industry collaboration. Nutrition, mental health, and beauty are increasingly intertwined, creating opportunities for innovative product development. Brands are recognizing that modern consumers want more than just a cream or a serum; they want a comprehensive approach to self-care that addresses both external appearance and internal health.
The emerging beauty landscape is characterized by personalization, technological integration, and a holistic view of personal care. Successful brands will be those that can balance cutting-edge technology with genuine human understanding, creating products that feel both scientifically advanced and deeply personal.
As we move further into this new era of beauty, consumers can expect increasingly sophisticated, tailored experiences that go far beyond traditional cosmetic offerings. The future of beauty is not just about looking good, but feeling good – inside and out.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
As an entrepreneur, I am constantly learning and perfecting my business acumen. Early on, I was heavily influenced by Tony Robbins’ teachings, particularly his emphasis on business as a mission and the importance of serving others and adding value. This philosophy resonated with me, inspiring me to build a social mission into Topical Skin from day one.
During my time at L’Oréal, I had the incredible opportunity to enhance my leadership and sales skills through several professional development programs. One particularly impactful experience was the leadership training I received from Oxford Leadership Academy. These experiences at L’Oréal not only refined my professional capabilities but also provided me with a comprehensive understanding of leadership dynamics in a global, fast-paced corporate environment.
I’m also a regular reader of Harvard Business Review, which provides invaluable insights into management and entrepreneurship. The magazine’s articles, written by top scholars and industry leaders, have significantly contributed to my understanding of business strategy and innovation.
In addition to these resources, I draw inspiration from various other sources:
1. The “48 Laws of Power” book, which offers strategic insights into human behavior and influence.
2. Entrepreneur magazine, keeping me updated on industry trends and best practices.
3. Podcasts for founders and TED talks, which provide fresh perspectives and innovative ideas.
Importantly, I’ve been fortunate to have mentors and past bosses who have inspired and guided me throughout my entrepreneurial journey. Their real-world experiences and advice have been instrumental in shaping my approach to business and leadership.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
## My Early Journey of Resilience
At 19 years old, I arrived in the United States as an international exchange student with very limited English skills. My journey was challenging from the moment I stepped onto American soil, facing significant language barriers that would test my determination and resilience.
Studying complex subjects like business and economics required an extraordinary level of commitment. I approached each academic challenge with a methodical strategy that reflected my determination. I would carefully look up unfamiliar words in my Oxford English dictionary, meticulously penciling in translations above the printed text. Each chapter became a personal conquest, where I would read and re-read to fully comprehend the context and meaning.
This process was particularly challenging in the pre-digital era, when translation tools were not readily available. Multiple-choice questions felt like navigating a linguistic minefield, requiring intense concentration and strategic thinking.
Beyond academic challenges, I had to adapt to an entirely new cultural environment, living away from everything familiar. My “glass half full” approach became my greatest asset. I was determined to not just survive, but to excel.
My persistence paid off. Through sheer hard work and an unwavering commitment to mastering English, I not only overcame these significant obstacles but graduated with honors. This experience became a foundational moment in my life, teaching me that with dedication, patience, and a positive mindset, I could transform challenges into opportunities for growth.
This early experience of resilience became a blueprint for my future entrepreneurial journey, demonstrating that language, cultural, and personal barriers are merely temporary challenges to be strategically navigated and ultimately conquered.
